Tomorrow June 5 2012 will be the "Transit of Venus", where the planet Venus appears to move across the face of the sun. The next one will be in 2117.
This event is considered to be unrelated to the impending December 2012 Mayan apocalypse

Don't look at the sun, you'll go blind. (for those that really needed to be reminded)

http://www.transitofvenus.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has info on the transit.

Edit - here is a good video of the transit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z9rM8ChTjY&hd=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've got this minor cloud problem here..... It sort of impedes getting a good shot at the sun....

This is neat. We are having a baby shower that day, so will be something fun to end with that night.

sweet; thanks for letting us know. The local astronomy club gave us a great look at Saturn and Jupiter a few months ago. Seeing them in a telescope never gets old.

Did some more research after seeing where Venus and the moon were in the sky tonight, and I can say that unfortunately, THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Thought it was a reliable source, I thought wrong.

Sorry to get your hopes up, but it ain't gonna happen

Are you sure? I got this from my local club which seems to confirm your initial post:
Tuesday, May 12 through Thursday,
May 14, watch the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and
Saturn dance with risky social distancing for
your pleasure

Went out to see comet neowise the other night, and although it was a cloudless sky, its been so hot and humid here in MD that the stars were a lot dimmer than here in winter. I was able to see it with binoculars, which was way cool, but either the water in the air or the years on the eyes made it so I couldn't see it without them.

I'm with you there. Went out looking over the shoreline of Lake Erie over the weekend (very little artificial lighting to interfere with) and with nothing but water in front of me, I still couldn't see the comet. Was extremely humid here over the weekend and maybe that had took it's toll on visibility. Being 60+ now also doesn't help :?

Is it the age of Aquarius? I have no idea when the moon is in the seventh house, but Jupiter aligns with Mars. And Venus. And Mercury. And Saturn. Five planets align in the predawn sky this month
