We currently have 3 Vibes with OEM wheels in the family.
2004 with 17” alloys
2006 with 16” alloys
2007 with 16” steelies/hubcaps
I’m gonna guess the 16” alloys are the lightest. I’d like to know has anyone installed other OEM wheels like 15” Prius wheels or something lighter?

yeah, there are plenty of other wheels that fit the 5x100 bolt pattern. Common ones have been from Celica GTS, Prius wheels, VW wheels. I have even seen some Crosstrek wheels.

Many years ago, Scion TC wheels were a popular choice. Example

Which OEM wheel and tire combo would you say is the lightest? Gonna pass down our 2007 to our youngest and he’s all about saving money lol!

Lightest in weight, or in pocket book?

I found the prices weren't intolerable at the scrap yards. I keep forgetting to call to ask if they charge for the tire if the wheel still has one on it. If they do, I'll probably say "Okay, I'll buy the tire, but you need to remove the wheel for me." - and see how fast they back down.

*Edit* - where are you located? If you're close to me, you could buy my old one and have alloy wheels AND spare parts :)

Probably a wee bit far to go for a spare parts vehicle. (even if it is fully running).

To expend on the subject, if we used say Toyota GT-S wheels, or SCION TC wheels, will the air sensors be compatible since they are all Toyota?

The TC wheels look good, but the lower profile tires look a little odd at full height. I wonder if a wider/taller tire might look more at home on the vibe.

Celica GT wheels are 15", if they fit, could be a nice light weight option.

I'm pretty sure there are no actual TPMS sensors in 2007 and below. They judge tire pressure by rotation, set by the initial drive cycle after dash light reset. I've managed to have tires with really low pressure -not- trigger off the light. I'm certain that 09 and up have them. No clue about 08.

You are correct. TPMS was optional on 2005-2007. It uses indirect TPMS uses the ABS sensors to detect the difference in rotation between tires to trigger the light.

2008 I think it was still optional, but used actual TPMS sensors in the wheels. 2009+ TPMS is mandatory and uses the wheel sensors.
