Intake System Questions

Post by Daidis »

Hello!

I've recently become the owner of a 2009 Pontiac Vibe for $900, with 153k miles. I plan on fixing her up a little bit before giving the car to my younger brother.

It appears that my intake system seems partially broken, as the intermediate duct doesn't seal completely against the filter box.

Would I need a new intermediate duct here? Is this setup correct? See the attached images.

Thank you

I'm assuming that's a flood car purchase?

Not a flood title, just a regular one that supposedly hit a deer.

you don't need that snorkel piece. it helps direct additional air to the airbox, but the car will operate perfectly fine without it.

My exact thoughts also !!! Where has this car been driven the past 12 years? I guess for $900 you can't complain ... BUT it needs some serious cleaning done to it. Post overall pics of this Vibe when you find time, and your location too. Thanks & welcome to GenVibe

Nebraska! And here's a full shot the day I got it. I enjoy driving it a lot, but I will admit, it does seem rather bouncy. It's due for new tires, so I'll see if that helps before poking around the suspension stuff.

I'd consider reviewing the suspension first before throwing new tires on. If the control arms and struts are out of life, they're going to wear the new tires prematurely.

I did get an alignment done recently on it, they claimed there was no damage or faulty parts with the suspension, and it feels much better to drive now.

I still have some motor mounts I need to replace, as it does vibrate quite a bit at idle (Goes away when in neutral).

Also have to replace the rear washer pump, as that isn't working.

Lots of work to do, but I'm loving how it drives. A little bouncy, but responsive and peppy.
