Do 2003 and 2004 Pontiac Vibe base have the same speedometer wire?

Post by eiffingeri »

My 2003 Pontiac Vibe Base have problem of the gauges. It seems the bad connection of the circuit connector and it is not the problem of fuses and the dimmer. I went to a GM dealer and they suggest to replace the cluster.

I checked the model number of my cluster is 83800-01110-00 and trying to find an used cluster. However, I found some speedometer in eBay are from 2004 which has a model number 83800-01180-00. I also find another model number is 83800-02E50-00. I know the 1st generation of Vibe is sell from 2003 to 2004 and 2005-2008 are different from previous year. My question is that "Is the 2004 Vibe cluster compatible for a 2003 Vibe?" And, are the cluster from close-year Toyota Matrix compatible?

One more question. Any websites are good to find the part number of vibe?

There are 3 generations of clusters, 03-04, 05-08, & 09-10.

Clusters from 03 and 04 Vibe and Matrix are fully interchangeable, HOWEVER ...

03-04 clusters come in 4 different configurations:
US base/AWD, US GT/XRS, Canada Base/AWD and Canada GT/XRS

The differences are that the base/AWD have lower speedometer top end and lower tach redline than theGT/XRS clusters, and the US clusters have English units (miles, mph, degrees Fahrenheit) while the Canada gauges are metric (kilometers, kph, degrees Celsius).

There is one other difference, the Canada Vibes/Matrixes got a low washer fluid sensor and a corresponding warning light in the cluster, US models got neither.

While fully interchangeable. 03 clusters are all red, 04 clusters are red and white. I like the 04 look better, but I've swapped 03 and 04 clusters back and forth, works fine.

Joatmon,

Thank you for your reply. It is clear for me know. I just find many sales on eBay said 04-08 Vibe or Toyota Matrix speedometer with the part number: 83800-01180-00 and not sure if I am right.
I personally like white and red more than all red. I may buy a 2004 USA speedometer and try.

effingeri,

were you able to replace instrument cluster wuth 04?
Did it work?

Appreciate your response.
I have same issue. My 2003 Toyota Matrix Cluster lights come ON and work perfectly fine when I disconnect the connector and reconeect.
When I get back home and start the car in the morning, only turn signal, couple others work. All other like temperature, fuel guage, speedo meter etc. turn off.

Thanks
