Sunroof/Sunshade Saga

Post by ZZvroom »

2003 GT with Moons & Tunes

In the course of working on my clogged roof drain, I've screwed up my sunroof.

I somehow got the sunshade forward of the glass, and now I cannot close the roof.
It pushes the shade ahead of it, but stops when the shade hits the forward limit.

I've tried to push the shade back, firmly, but no joy.

I am thinking I may have to remove the headliner to fix this. From https://forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=3555 it looks like that is hours of work. And even then, I don't know if that will let me see what to do.

So I'm seeking any images of a removed headliner on a sunroof-equipped Vibe, and/or other idea on this problem.

a couple of other folks have had that problem. Found two that fixed it without removing the headliner, there may be more

hopefully their info will help

there's pics of a sunroof vibe interior with headliner removed at https://forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=47447 but I don't think any of them help see what is supposed to keep the shade behind the glass

Thanks. I will make a pair of flat tools out of bar stock and see how it goes.

We used two 1.25" wide/0.125" thick bars today.
We could get them past the back lip of the sunshade, but twisting them did not allow us to get the shade back.

Are there actual stops that catch on the back end of the glass, or is it the lip (such as at the front edge) we are dealing with?

We got smarter today. My friend climbed inside and looked back between the 2 layers.
He could see the protrusions mentioned in the aforementioned thread.
With eyes on the characters, it was possible to lift the rear barrier and fully open the sunshade.

Success!
