I'm new here. I've owned my 2006 vibe base model 5 speed for 2 years now. It's a really great car. I've had zero issues with it. Bought it as a second vehicle but worked awesome so I used it as my daily driver. I use high mileage ultra synthetic 5w30, either Pennzoil or quakerstate (what ever of the 2 is on sale at the time), Fram gold filter and I do 20000 kilometre (12422 miles) intervals. A lot will argue this is to many miles between but the oil stays golden brown the whole time and never uses a drop. I also live in the country and drive 80% highway. Car had 288000 kilometers when I purchased it. Since the odometer stops at 299999 I kept track of my mileage with the trip meter and now have 365000 kilometers. Yes I drive 40000 kilometers per year give or take.
Welcome to the forum and congrats on a sweet ride. All three of mine use Mobil-1 0w-30 and a NAPA platinum synthetic filter, with about a 7,500 to 8,000 mile OCI. I'd be perfectly comfortable going up to 15,000 if they were driven that many miles in a year. I personally would stick with the 6 month/20,000 km interval you have going.
Good luck, and again welcome to the Genvibe forum.
I usually use Mobil-1, but since my wife's daily is in semi-retirement now, I am going to save myself some money and get the SuperTech flavor from WalMart. Depending what's going on, I usually go for 5-7500 mile oil changes.
I am changing the oil every 5,000 miles in my 2010, 2.4L Vibe that has 205,000 miles. I use Castrol 5W-20 synthetic blend, high mileage oil and Fram tough guard oil filter and happy to report that have no issues to report. Oil is cheap, engine is not.
