2003 Base Air box hoses help

I was recently working on my Vibe and I noticed that there is a bolt missing and a hose broken near my air box. After looking at diagrams I cannot for the life of me figure out what it does or the part the hose is connected to. Any help is appreciated.

The red circle is where the hose connects to the air box.
The blue circle is where the bracket is missing a bolt.

Welcome to genvibe

I found this picture from a long time ago, when I was doing something on my base 03 and wanted to remember where the hoses went. It appears to show a metal bracket going over that blue circle area in your pic

Also, I found this pic in an ebay listing that shows a small plastic pipe sticking out the back end of the air box, most likely where that hose connected. (The air box is upside down in the pic)

I can't remember where the other end of that hose connects

Thanks for the pictures. At least now I know what it is suppose to look like. I am curious where the other end of the hose connects and whether it is anything important (like it needs to be fixed).

No lean codes or rough idle with it disconnected like that?

The other end of that line goes to a junction near the cruise control actuator (provided you have that option.) As you can see, clearly not stock but you get the idea.

I had to replace this hose (and the one from the vacuum switching valve to the intake manifold) as the originals were split on the ends. Only thing I could find locally in a pinch was some of this 5/32" PVC fuel line, works good enough for now. Definitely smoothed the idle out.

No check engine codes. My car used to idle in the 2000s. I removed and cleaned the throttle body/iacv and intake manifold and the idle dropped to below 1000. Is it worth buying a new air box? Unless there is a way to re-attached the snapped off plastic outlet.

Thank you for the help and your pictures. I'm looking to get the CAI from Cosmo Racing so I may not replace this tubing. I'd need to check if the CAI even has a spot for it. My guess is that it does not.

Is the vacuum line part of the intake system? Exhaust? Does it control the cruise control in anyway?

Honestly, you could probably just leave that vac line as is. OR, buy a tapered fitting thing for it and install from inside the lid of glove box, use some JB weld or something to hold it in place, and then attach vac line to it.

as for what should be bolted to the airbox lid, if it's not there, it's not big deal. i have an aftermarket intake, and it's all just kinda floating around in the engine bay in that area.

To fix the air box so the hose will connect to the box again, use a bulkhead fitting on the box. The bulkhead fitting has threads inside the fitting to screw a hose fitting into.

Here is a link to a page that you can look up the two fittings you would need. You need to size the fittings to your hose. Drill the broken hose connector hole out in your air box to fit the bulkhead connection to your air box and then screw hose adapter to the bulkhead fitting.

These fitting can be plastic or metal. Any good hardware store should carry them.
