So I have a p1071 lean code that I've been trying to track down. I recently bought this car. It's a 2005 vibe gt. It has a cold air intake and which has a hose coming off of it that is plugged up. I've been trying to find a diagram to see where it should lead to but haven't found any open except one. I dont know what this part is called but is there supposed to be an opening like shown in the picture?

Here's a Matrix part diagram showing that valve: http://www.japan-parts.eu/toyota/us/200 ... ping#25860

It looks like the small port is supposed to be vented to atmosphere.

So if I'm understanding you correctly, the appendage off the bottom of the part in my picture stays open?

I just looked at mine and that's not even a hose fitting. It's for support. If you had the original air intake, that barb would fit into a rubber bushing on the air intake box.

With that being said, do You see where I could have a vacuum line leak? The CEL comes on, and take about a full tank of gas before it'll turn off for another 75-100 miles roughly. Ive taken carb cleaner and sprayed hose fittings and the intake manifold to find if it hiccups and still nothing

I would concentrate on the modified air intake. Where's the MAF sensor?

My approach would be to find a stock air intake box with MAF and try to get things back to normal.

(By the way, that socket extension banging against the positive battery terminal cover would bother me.)

The MAF is under the intake tube. I cleaned it, but I think I put it on before it dried completely. I'll check to see if its dirty again. Maybe that will be a sign.

don't worry about that socket. It was in that position just to take a picture.

I'm getting 27 mpg when driving reserved. Sound about right? This is with driving mostly on roads where the limit is 50mpg

I hear it's not good to over-clean the MAF. Every 30K miles or so.

One old mechanic's tip I heard for pinpointing a vacuum leak is with a propane torch with the flame tip removed, orifice exposed. Propane getting sucked into the manifold will increase rpm.
