Got Mac?

Got my new G5 today... and all I can say is d@mn! Makes my Dell at work look like an etch-a-sketch. Anyone else here a fan of the big MAC Attack. It's great that Steve Jobs, finally got in the boat with Bill Gates... makes me want to kiss that Dell goodbye, even if the factory is in my old hometown of Round Rock, Texas. Now if I could only find a better way to hook my iPod into my headunit.

Alright, let's kick this thread off in style. Here's part of my crew doing what they do best. The iMac surfing Genvibe, the PC (on the left) trying to convert Rasermon's Ohio video into a format useable on Mac (seems to have locked up right at the moment) and my iBook 500 just hanging out on the desk.

I stand in awe at your list!PS: "Horribly expensive"? I look at Macs vs. Windoze machines (one of which I'm sentenced to use in perpetuity at work) sort of like power steering and power brakes. Once upon a time, they cost extra. You could save about $150 by getting non-powered versions, but end up wrestling your car around for five years. Compared to using a Mac, using a PC is kind of like muscling around a car with no power assists; you can do it, you can save money, and if you'd never had long term use of the alternative, you might even think that life was swell.

My Parents stand and curse at my list since I'm currently holed up in their house until mine in Ohio sells. What kind of automation are you talking with the SE? Home, light switches and stuff?Nice analogy for Mac use by the way. I'll have to remember that one.

quote:What kind of automation are you talking with the SE? Home, light switches and stuff?Oops, re-read the post and answered my own question. I would be interested in hearing details. I was thinking about doing something like this with a Unix box I have and commanding it through terminal emulation via the network. Mac automation might be a lot more fun.

I do windoze, and that's ok for me, I don;t know any better Once, for work, we needed a single board PC to fit into a passive backplane, for a ruggedized enclosure ... Went to check out one manufacturer's facility in silicon valley, walking through this company where all they did was design and build PCs to run Microsoft software. Every single desk had a Mac on it.

I don't think they're expensive...you get what you pay for, IMHO. My G3 Indigo iMac was $749, and I haven't had a lick of trouble with it since the day I got it. I added a 512 meg stick of RAM to it and now it's super duper fast, runs OS X.2 like a dream. But I have not always been a Mac fanatic...this is actually my first Mac. I'm a PC convert. As Jeremiah Cohick once said on his switcher commercial..."I used to bash Macs, but that was more a move out of ignorance..." I used to be the ultimate PC-upper. But now I've totally changed my tune...because OS X changed my opinion of Macs as a whole. What a wonderful OS.

Wow, take a couple days off and you miss some stuff. This new Mac is amazing. It's so fast I think I'm getting sick to my stomach! Did set me back a little, guess I'll have to wait a little longer for that CAI... but what a great investment. Also got the new iPod up and running with iTunes 4... it's great. Now just have to wait for Jaguar... and I have to convince the guys at work to change format to Mac!

I assume you mean Panther, the G5 should already have Jaguar. I'll bet it is fast though. Oh to have 64-bit processing for Photoshop! I've got an Alpha 533 (anyone recognize that?) but finding anything that will run under WinNT on it is next to impossible. Anyway, glad to hear you're enjoying the G5. I'm green with envy.

Wow. I'm suprised to find so many Mac Addicts here on GenVibe! I have been a HUGE Mac geek since I was in Jr. High. We had a computer lab with 2 Mac Classics. Remember those little 9" b&w screens? I was blown away. Granted I was 12, but impressed none the less. My Graphite G4 is chugging along quite well. The old 2x AGP slot now holds an ATI Radeon 8500 with 64mb vid RAM, the motherboard has a full GB of RAM and the dual 500Mhz processors still keep Quark, Photoshop & Illustrator moving pretty well. Sure would like a G5 though. I think I will wait another year or so until the G5 makes its way into a laptop.

No doubt! There are some hardcore Mac people on here, in addition to the average users. Sounds like a pretty sweet setup with the G4. I need to get something a little faster than my iMac now. It's good, but it needs to be better. I agree on the G5 laptop idea. That would be great. Especially if they continue to make the 17" version. Oh, and I just had to do this (so geeky I know, but hey). Per the 9" displays, yes I remember them. In fact here's my trusty little friend next to it's big brother.

Well, I had my first kernel panic today...I've had my iMac almost a year (I got it Sept. 19, 2002). Thought maybe it might have been a "happy birthday" kernel panic, but nope.I must say, even though it was a crash, it was an aesthetically pleasing one. The gray half-tone comes over the screen cleanly from top to bottom, in an animated fashion, then a lovely dialog box with antialiased text informed me in several different languages that I needed to restart my computer, and how to do so. Lovely.

My ex-bf (and fellow PC guru) calls me Mac Girl now, so that's where I got it. Mac Person is something I've always heard...and Mac-ified is anotherone I made up, but it's too long.Anyway, I used to be a total Windows/PC bigot and Apple hater. So this is a hilarious turnaround for me...but I LOVE my Apple equipment. I don't spend any time whatsoever now hating my computer or my peripherals, or cursing at it. It just...works.I need to put the little Apple decal I got with my computer on my Vibe...I have 2...maybe the rear triangularish windows?

How well do they stay there? They have to stick on the outside, right? I wouldn't think they would stay very long. If they will stay, all that's left to decide is the old style rainbow logo or the newer white logo. I'm thinking the white one.
