New improved serpentine belt tensioner

Found this on Ebay. For those of you who have gone nuts with the constant noise and failure of the hydraulic belt tensioner, this is a blessing. The Vibe isn't listed..... yet. They list Corolla (98-08) and Matrix (03-08), so I was sure it would fit the Vibe. And it does - I installed it on my '05. I called them, so they're changing the listing to include 03-08 Vibe. The pin you see at the bottom of the spring is for shipping - it falls out once you compress the spring to install the belt. One year warranty from the seller. Here's the link:

Nice find ... and a great price. Won't need one for awhile BUT when I start working on my project 2003 Vibe GT this fall, I'll keep this in mind if I need a new one. Thanks for sharing. Another reason this site is awesome ! ;)

Vibe63, is this for the 1ZZ or 2ZZ? The belt tensioners between the two have slight difference. I'm not 100% positive if they're interchangeable or not.

Based on the curvature of it, it looks like it is for a 1ZZ.

Can't say for sure about the 2zz engine. The tensioners look pretty much the same. Mine's a 1zz

Update: the listing says it'll fit an Matrix XRS which, I believe, is the 2zz engine, so it should fit the Vibe.

I'd be leery of it actually fitting the 2ZZ. I never compared my old ones when I replaced them, but I do recollect some difference that made me think they wouldn't interchange.

Hydraulic system should have better damping compared to a simple spring system. This spring based tensioner may resonate at a certain rpm.
