At work we have been discussing the merits of my 04 Vibe, someone asked me to describe it. I said it resembles a mini van then Kevin John says no, it’s a car another says no it’s a SUV, now I don’t know. How would the membership classify the Vibe?

I think it's more like a microvan. Deep down I know it's a Corolla station wagon, but some prefer crossover utility. Not really an SUV. I'd go with tall hatchback

It's a wagon. As much as people dislike that name, that's what the Vibe is.

My registration says that it is a station wagon. My father-in-law calls it a grocery getter. I always tell him that I can get groceries faster than anybody else though.

I call my Vibe a wagon. It's classified on my registration as "Station Wagon". However, my local registration issuer had a hard classifying my Vibe on their computer. We tried hatchback, wagon, SUV... and finally settled on Station Wagon as the VIN seem suggest that.

My insurance calls it a wagon, so does the DMV, car and driver say its an appliance for the road and a crossover vehicle. I call it a sleeper with lots of potential.

I would consider the vibe an SUV in the same lines as the Honda CRV, Toyota and Mitsubishi Outlander. All "tall wagons" based on a small car platform. So, it is a SUW (sport utility wagon).

Call it want you want to make you feel better: "Station", "Sport/Utility", whatever. In the end, it's still a wagon.BTW, Reynoma, the Toyota is the RAV4. If the Vibe (and Matrix) was so similar to the RAV4, why does Toyota offer the Matrix? Because they are not the same. The RAV4 is a small SUV because of it's more rugged AWD layout and higher ride height. The Matrix is also offered with AWD but it's not an off-road capable AWD like the RAV4. (Not that the RAV4 is much of an off-road vehicle either.)Go to edmunds.com and look at how the Vibe, Matrix and RAV4 are classified:Vibe = 4-door wagonhttp://
www.edmunds.com/new/2004/pontiac/vibe/i ... iac*Matrix = 4-door wagonhttp://
www.edmunds.com/new/2004/toyota/matrix/ ... oyota*RAV4 = 4-door SUVhttp://

Nova,Using the logic that just because Toyota sells both the Rav4 and the Matrix must mean that they are different would cause me to ask this question: is the Buick Regal and Buick Century different?

I also call mine a "Sport Wagon" or "practical sports car". I don't like SUVs, so I really don't like it when people call it a small SUV. I don't compare it to the CRV, RAV4, or that new Mitsubishi. They claim they can go off road (mildly) and are small SUVs. Our Vibes and Matrixes are not marketed showing people going off road in the dirt, ours are marketed more with on road driving performance in mind. Think of the TV commercials. Our sport wagons are lower and handle the road a lot better than those small SUVs.Later,

quote:Using the logic that just because Toyota sells both the Rav4 and the Matrix must mean that they are different would cause me to ask this question: is the Buick Regal and Buick Century different?Trim levels. The Regal (currently) is an uplevel Century. Similar to a Grand Prix GT vs a Grand Prix. Buick chose to make different names for the 2 while Pontiac added just added GT to the same name. The Century was a different car previously but has been merged with the Regal line. It's the same thing with the 60-70's GTO and 442, Malibu, etc. The GTO was the top level Tempest (which aslo had a mid level Le Mans). The 442 was a top level Cutlass. The Malibu was a top level Chevelle.A more recent version would be the Buick Grand National being a top level Regal.

Thanks so much for the feedback; we had great fun with these postings, now we know that the Vibe is a vehicle.

I just needed to add , that if you strap your children to the luggage rack, (like I have been tempted to) the vibe becomes a 3rd world country ..Bus....!
