Ok, as the prime lecturer on using the search feature, I did in fact do a search, but wasn't able to find any info on this.I'm just under 2000 miles from my CAI filter maintenance. Does anyone know what exactly I have to do? I think I have to clean it and maybe oil it or something...Is there a kit I can buy? How does this process work...thanks y'all!

Its all the same, a degreaser and new oil! Any ones will work, although be aware the K&N kit has red oil(their filters are white when clean)

That's a good idea...what does a new filter run approximately?

Ok, maybe not.

Make sure you clean from the inside out. I say mileage doesn't matter. All conditions are different. Take it out at night, clean it, and let it sit. Reinstall in the morning. No need to buy another filter to swap in, unless your wife/girlfriend is pregnant and is about ready to pop! Then you might want to have the fastest vehicle ready for the delivery!

That's a really good idea Rob. A second filter would be a good investment. I may have to do the same thing.

I would get a second filter, but I need to minimize my expenditures and reduce any non-crucial spending...

Took my K&N out of the box and put it right into the air box. Big mistake. Had to clean my MAF. Works great now but I have a spare Wix filter to put in during the K&N cleaning. When I asked the local part stores about these filters releasing oil, not one of them ever heard of it before and some of the guys used the K&N in their rides. Bad (removed) dynos I guess.

I was checking out nitrous products and found this by ZEX. I think it's something I'm gonna get after the thrill of the S/C wares down a little.

Why was just dropping the K&N in a mistake? What caused you to have to clean your MAF sensor (and...BTW...how did you go about doing that being as I am about to purchase mine?).Jim

It comes sealed in plastic and a bit too wet with oil. Thats why it's good to let them sit and get tackier. I knew about this but thought a new filter would be OK. Air flowing turough the filter carries oil droplets onto the MAF. Car runs lean and makes less power until you clean it. Not good for anything but mileage. If your getting better mileage after a CAI, you may also be making less power until you clean the MAF. I used carb/choke cleaner and a gentle wipe.

Cool...thanks for the info. How long do you think it needs to sit before use?Jim

Ok...so this is what I bought: Now my question is -- I'm unsure if Injen uses proprietary oils in their filters...so not meaning to be a stupid question, but can I use a K&N kit on an Injen filter? When it comes to filters, is brand irrelevant?

Someone at a class I took told me to use electronic parts cleaner to clean the MAF, and it blasts out of the can hard enough you don't have to touch it with anything else.I think it was because some carb cleaners leave some residue, whereas the electronic parts cleaner isn't supposed to

All the K&n filters come preoiled from them, no need to oil when you first buy it.

It can't hurt to service too often, but the K & N was designed to eat thousands of miles worth of dust in desert racing, and depending on individual driving conditions, it could be good for 50,000 or more without service on paved dust-free roads. Might be worthwhile inspecting it closely before deciding on a service interval.
