Discoloration....

I don’t think that I have read anyone else having this problem nor did anything come up using the search function. I have noticed some discoloration in the weather stripping in between the car and the plastic cladding (above the front tire wheel.) Anyone else had any problems?

Hot @#$% I'm not the only one!!! Not that I'm certain that's a good thing. Here's my original thread:

quote:Take it to the dealer and they will fix it.. Well, this is arguable. So far I've had no luck. That's not to say they haven't cooperated, just that they aren't real sure what to do. Of course my problem's continued existence is largely my own fault since I haven't yet returned to see if anything has been found.

You have any pics of yours? Maybe to compare! Btw, you have a shadow too? Weird!

quote:Here is a link to All Data. They are behind a bit, but it does describe discoloration on the wheel moulding.. Actually that is for the 'sandblasting' effect on the cladding that is another hot issue, as you know. As far as I have seen, this issue has not been bought up or discussed yet. I'll add this to the list and hope to find out this week!

quote:The Date was released was back in 2002?Right, that addressed the 2003 model year cladding with replacement with 2003-like parts. That same TSB was reissued this July 31st with the same title, but with the new 2004 part numbers (not yet on AllData). This issue would be far more involved, since if all the 'rubber seal' is turning discolored, they would have to replace far more cladding parts than normal. That unless they can clean this with a solution or something to clean off the discoloration.

Doesn't look like it. Looking back over my original post I don't see any. I have one somewhere on my Mac, but the lighting kind of blocks out the discoloration.

Yep, same exact problem here. Just noticed it a few days ago. It looks dusty, redish and splotchy. Definitely going back to the dealer for this one. Had the same problem with my Mitsu Montero, but it took 5 years to show it.

OK. Off to the dealership with me tomorrow I believe. Now that I see two other people are having the same problem, I think it's time to make sure someone's aware of it.

Assuming you mean production date, 04/2002 for me.

I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think mine was built in March 2002 (#7049). I still haven't noticed any discoloration in that area. However, my car has spent most of its nights in the garage.millster -- What's the air quality like in Ohio (that's where you bought the car originally, right?). Wondering if some sort of atmospheric contaminant is giving you this grief. Pretty sure it's not anything from the Northern Great Plains, we're pretty clean out here!!

http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=82412,864 (#412864)Didn't want to go out to the car, but I thought I remembered this from a long time ago. Pmh013, first of all an A+ to you for remembering where I bought my car. Second, while it would explain Msmyer's woes as well (Dayton being quite close to Cincy) I think the air here in Billings is worse that Ohio. We have several oil refineries surrounding the town so there's plenty of pollution to go around. That and the smoke right now, but that's another issue. I wonder if it's not entirely sun rot since my car has but on rare occasion, seen the inside of a garage.

If I knew how I did it, I'd sell the secret & make millions. I'm interested in knowing how you make out with the dealer... if they can actually determine a reason for this mysterious rotting. I'd bet $1 CDN (about $0.74 US) that if they replace it, GM will not bother trying to figure out *why* it happened, that would just be too much work. Oh, and if they do figure it out, they sure won't tell you. That's been my experience anyway.

you've got it backwards.GM will spend millions to figure out something that costs them 25 cents to fix...and still not tell anyone

So, has anyone gotten to the bottom the discolouration problem? I've made a point of looking at mine a couple of times, still no problem. For once, my car is OK!

Nothing like the feeling of reviving a long dead thread.Anyway, I finally got the "Quarterpanel Fillers" replaced today. I had made an appointment to take the car back for adjustments to the repairs made after my accident and had them order the parts to replace these at the same time. After a LONG wait (they moved the shop and lost the parts) I finally got the car in. They did a knockout job on the fillers, but the repairs to the body still look horrible. This could be a long battle.I'll post photos if anyone's actually interested.
