Why can the Vibe only be ordered with painted lower cladding in 3 colors: white, balck,a nd silver? It seems to me it would look much better if the entire exterior was painted to match.

Is it true that the monotone package is just paint over the charcoal cladding? If so, it's only a matter of weeks/months before the charcoal is showing through the paint after some minivan backs into your bumper at the shopping center.

Yes that is true, but that is the case for all plastic bumpers and mouldings on all cars. They are all black or grey under the paint.

They will be making monochrome versions this year sometime.

All Vibe colors can be ordered in monotone. The white/black/silver were the first three, so probably the ones seen most on dealer lots.

I hacen't seen any mono-chrome on dealer lots yet, but thought it was going to be optional on all colors at some point.I personally like it charcoal color. I think the contrasting colors... especially on the lighter colored Vibes looks good. I also wouldn't worry about it pealing off. Like the bumpers on any car now, the cladding is only painted plastic. From the factory they use flexible paint on these parts that can bend when the bumper is hit. It may start showing spyder cracks over time, as paint does get harder with age. However, it should hold up as well as the painted bumpers on any other car on the road.

I hope all colors will come in full paint versions, but Pontiac website reply told me only the three colors were planned for this year and it costs $500. Pontiac needs to realize they aren't making a truck and appearance is critical when you look at the competition in this market.
