Let's play...Name that Part!

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but here goes.
When we bought our 2009 Vibe GT a couple weeks ago, there were two plastic parts (looks like some type of trim pieces?) that were sitting on the sides of the engine compartment. They were not attached to anything. There were just sitting loose in the engine compartment.
Does anyone have any idea what they are, or where they are supposed to attach?

The first picture shows the tops of the two pieces next to each other (my shoe is there for size comparison).

The second picture shows the bottom of the pieces with the letters "WL" on one, and "WR" on the other.

The third picture shows the bottom of the pieces with a set of numbers that may help identify them?

Oddly, the part numbers are not coming up in searches.

The closest I found is some kind of fender seal, but on the older model Matrix.

Maybe previous mechanic left someone elses parts in your car :D

Does it appear the windshield or radiator were replaced?

I will look closer when I have a chance, but I didn't notice that the windshield or radiator appeared to have been replaced.

Maybe they really are spare parts left behind from a different vehicle? If so, I guess I don't need them, but I hate to just throw them out. It's probably silly, but I'm always thinking, "what if I find I need them for something?" :?

Those are trim pieces that go on the insides of the fenders (on either side of the engine bay). They attach with plastic retainers. I can pretty much guarantee the retainers broke and the pieces came out of place.

I will post some pictures for you tomorrow...

Great to know, vibenvy! That would make sense. I look forward to seeing the pictures, so I know how to try and reattach them somehow.

Just back from playing in the hurricane in Florida and just read your note. Yes, these pieces are on either side of the engine bay. When you open up the hood, follow along the bolts holding the top of the metal quarter panels on either side. As you work your way back towards the windshield and see the VIN sticker between the bolts for both the right and left quarter panel, these pieces fit just below those stickers. Or another way of looking at it, they are next to the strut towers on the sides of the quarter panel walls. The two black OEM push pins still hold that piece on my driver's side quarter panel. The push pins for the one on the passenger's side have been replaced with red plastic wall anchors that I hammered in to hold your mystery trim piece in place.

I think I figured it out. Thanks for the replies and explanation where they should go. I was initially trying to make them lay down flat (horizontally) somewhere, but that did not work. I didn't think of them going upright (vertically) along the sides of the engine compartment. I lined up the holes as described in the previous post, used zip-ties (red ones...to match the car color ;) ), and now they're in place. They cover up holes that lead to an abyss on the sides of the engine compartment. Thanks everyone!

Here is the trim part zip-tied in place on the left side of the engine compartment (when standing in front of the car). The other trim piece is just a mirror image on the right side of the engine compartment. Thanks again.

perfect; right underneath the white VIN sticker. Again, you can tap in some of those large red, plastic wall anchors to take the place of the OEM push pins and the red will enhance your color scheme just like you've done with the zip ties.
