Forecast: Auroral activity will be high(+). Weather permitting, highly active auroral displays will be visible overhead from Inuvik, Yellowknife, Rankin and Igaluit to Vancouver, Helena, Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Bay City, Toronto, Montpelier, and Charlottetown, and visible low on the horizon from Salem, Boise, Cheyenne, Lincoln, Indianapolis and Annapolis.
This map shows where the aurora/northern lights may be visible on the night of Sunday, April 2, 2016. It is based on geomagnetic activity, and the actual presence of an aurora depends on other factors too, so its possible there will be no aurora, but if there is an aurora, the map shows where it might be visible. This is very much further south than usual.

Very cool. But of course, nothing cool like that (yawn) here.

As far as I can tell, in the graph, the wide gradient band represents probability of aurora being overhead, and since auroras happen about 100 miles up, the southern solid green line represents the limit where the lights could be seen on the horizon. (again, with the caveat that nothing might happen)

For what its worth, they forecast the same range again for April 12, 2016 http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast ... a/20160412

You mean that skinny green line means that I might have a chance to see it when I get to the mainland?
