Nice article! However, there's something wrong with the editing. I believe they meant to say that the Vibe was highest ranked domestic car, because there are other cars in the top 15 list and I own one of them (Corolla). Oh yeah, and we bought it new in 2005.
I'm planning to keep both the Vibe and Corolla until the wheels fall off. I want to watch both of the odometers stop at 299,999!

So, in descending order, here are the 15 cars that people keep the most:
Honda CR-V (28.6 percent keep it 10 years or more, 2 times the average);
Toyota Prius (28.5 percent keep it at least 10 years, 2 times the average);
Toyota RAV4 (28.2 percent keep it 10 years, 2 times the average);
Toyota Highlander (26.5 percent keep it 10 years, 2 times the average);
Honda Odyssey (25.6 percent keep it 10 years, 1.9 times the average);
Toyota Sienna (25.4 percent keep it 10 years, 1.9 times the average);
Toyota Camry (24.4 percent keep it at least 10 years, 1.8 times the average);
Toyota Avalon (23.8 percent keep it at least 10 years, 1.8 times the average);
Honda Pilot (23.3 percent keep it at least 10 years, 1.7 times the average);
Honda Element (23.1 percent keep it at least 10 years, 1.7 times the average);
Subaru Forester (22.9 percent keep it at least 10 years, 1.7 times the average);
Toyota Matrix (22.6 percent keep it at least 10 years, 1.7 times the average);
Honda Accord (22.1 percent keep it at least 10 years, 1.6 times the average);

Interesting comparisons of all the cars out there. If memory serves me right, I believe the American car manufacturers (which are pretty much extinct from any of those lists
) have been promoting "leasing" big time, over buying, over the past couple of decades. If that's true it clearly would explain why every few years they got a different vehicle instead of holding onto them longer. It would be interesting to see if there's a comparison of which vehicles got leased the most compared to straight out purchased.

I do know that one of my customers kept pushing leasing to me as well, even with all the miles I put on it. There are apparently a number of accepted ways to trade in your leased vehicle and have the additional miles forgiven, if you immediately lease another vehicle.
Personally, as I keep telling him, I prefer to have the ability to modify my car without risking penalties. (new radio, add mountings, etc)

I wonder why that list includes an entry for "Washington DC (Hagerstown MD)". DC and Hagerstown are different kinds of cities, with different demographics, an hour apart (2 or 3 at rush hour) They list Baltimore MD separately, which is closer to DC than Hagerstown

Good question. Not quite sure how they calculate a couple things, like popular category. Only a couple years away from having my Vibe for 15. I'm hoping it will hold up until the Jetsons car is released.

With our luck, it'll be made by Telsa, and a hacked OTA update will make it fold up with people inside.
