hey, im just curious, but if i went to my pontiac dealer and asked him to change my automatic vibe to a manual 5 speed, would they do it? just a hypothetical question, also if a change like this ever occured would there be any potential problems?

I imagine that they would be happy to do it but that you couldn't afford to pay them. If you do get an estimate on the job, let us know. Probably would be cheaper to trade in your vibe with an auto for different car with a manual than it would be to swap just the tranny. The parts exist to support either transmission, just a matter of swapping them all out. lots of parts $$$ and labor $$$

All is possible, and if you pull out enough $ from your pocket, they will do it.

welp, i talked it over with some friends who r kinda car savvy, and i thought it over and over and over in my mind, and my guess is that the estimate could be around 5000 to 8000 bucks give or take. as for labor for the mechanics i think thats not even a factor joatmon cuz they get paid by the dealership they work for, also if u came with cash i think u could bargain, but im still looking for anyone elses reasonable hypothetical price range on this of if someone wants to call there local dealership that is not busy that would be awesome.

That would give you the most accurate estimate of what it would cost. Anyone can call and ask the price, but you're the one who wants to know, so you should be the one to call and find.quote:as for labor for the mechanics i think thats not even a factor joatmon cuz they get paid by the dealership they work for.Whatever the dealership pays their mechanics per hour, you can expect to pay at least double that to the dealership to get their mechanics to work on your car. There's a lot of overhead costs in running a dealer's service department. Customers pay for it. You will pay for the labor, and dearly. There's no such thing as a free lunch. TNSTAAFL

A dealer will do what ever you want for a price. You might be better off looking for a wrecked Toyota Celica, Toyota MR2, Vibe or Matrix from a junk yard. Buy it's transmission and then have someone or yourself install it.
