For the reverse lights I went with 15W HID kit. Not sure about the first gen car but on my '09 lighting pattern is like having small head lights or fog lights on the back of the car. It is a PnP kit HID lamp has a silicon rubber base that snaps in place of the OE lamp holder Power to the ballast is supplied by a plug that is inserted in the the lamp socket. Had them for about 4 years now with no issues. I have tried 35W ballasts generate a lot more heat but not enough additional light output to justify using them.

For the floor lighting I used a couple of these kit.http://www.alpena.ca/Product.aspx?id=1088&webcat=14. I used the dome light to trigger a relay to power all the LEDs on an isolated power circuit.

No I got them directly for the manufactures rep. At the time they weren't even in there product catalogs

There are 3 main issues

1.Will your flasher module like LED bulbs, but it only applies to the turn signal bulbs. The majority will see the low load of the LED as a bulb out and fast flash the blinker. If you want to see an example, pull one of your standard flash bulbs on your car out and hit the turn signal.
You need to use a flasher module that will work with LEDS or load resistors, this is the case with the vibe. Load resistors are easy to add on while you change the bulbs.

2. Do you have CANBUS or does your car have other fancy bulb out detection.
If so, then you have to use resistors to fool it or CANBUS bulbs.
The vibe does not

3. Is your flasher bulb wired as CK, a non-standard wired socket.
For the front turn signal bulb on the 09-10 vibe, it is CK


You can basically use whatever you want for the backup bulb. If you have the mod abilities, you can go crazy.
An high output LED bulb that fits the standard socket is beneficial as you can use the same wiring and get a lot more light - simple plug and play, although the bulb with be $$$. Same with a HID kit, which would have the output similar to headlights

We've had v-LEDs 5000k LED bulbs in the reverse lights of both our 2009 Vibe GTs for a couple years now. Very bright and are plug and play just like a halogen bulb.

It's hard to get a super bright bulb for the 921 socket as the wiring is low rated.

They have the euro switchback led bulbs now, made for front driving lights where they use White instead of yellow, so you could modify the turn signal bulb in the rear and use a dual bulb socket7443 (which will fit into the oem socket 7440) Then with the euro bulb it would be yellow flash, and white full on just for reverse (you'd taped the reverse+ wite), off otherwise.You can get some really high powered stuff for the 7440/3 socket
