Hey all,
I just bought myself a nice 09 Vibe with very low mileage (29k), and while I love the car very much , I'm trying to get a feel for the way the transmission does its job. I've noticed that it feels a bit hard when it shifts and it can shift very abruptly/wildly all over the place. I'm wondering if this is just how these perform? Or if there may be a potential problem?

Sounds like you may have discovered the reason the previous owner sold the vehicle.

Take it back to where you bought it and/or a reputable mechanic.

Yes, that does not sound normal. My 10 GT ran just fine and shifted like any other normal car with an automatic transmission. Good luck in figuring out the issue and getting it fixed!

There was TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) issued for the 2009-2010 5-speed autos a few years back. I don't think this is necessarily your issue, but it may not hurt to have the TSB performed by a local GM dealer (it won't cost you anything).

My 09 2.4 with 5 speed automatic had the same issues and my GM dealer reprogrammed the transmission with updated software and it was like a different car much better shifts no more surging forward when coming to a stop.
