Was told I should come in here and say hello. Just purchased a new to me used Pontiac vibe 2010 1.8L. Feel like I got a pretty good deal purchased it with 62.6k miles for 7500.00. Was used as a courier vehicle and has a lot of easy highway miles.
It came with a warranty that has a month left on it. I am transferring it to my name in order to take care of the cold start rattle issue that i see a few people mentioning in forums. Something about replacing the updated camshaft gear. Suprisingly found the transmission fluid to be a little dark so ordered Toyota atf-ws and a filter kit as well as Toyota sllc pink to keep coolant topped off as I've heard some mechanics like to put in whatever they have laying around.
Intend to really take care of this car the best I can and run it until it dies. So far really enjoying the vehicle. The 1.8 is adequate for accelerating and doesn't get Rev happy at all when climbing inclines on the highway just stays pegged at 2.9k rpm and goes right up which I was very impressed with. Wife has a dodge caliber and it gets into higher 4 -5k rpm on those same hills.
Wanted to just say thanks in advance for the lurking I know I'll be doing in the future of some already great posts I've read regarding maintenance, and general care of the vehicle. I'll do my best to get a few pictures up however the looks of the vehicle is not what makes me love it. What sold me was all the rave reviews I've read regarding cost to own /easy to work on /great value vehicle these vibes are.

Welcome
You'll need a gallon when you drop the pan to replace the trans filter; really easy. I've got bolt torques on my post which should be close if you can't find the exact ones for the 1.8L five speed

Thanks. I did only order 4 quarts / a gallon I'll probably order one more just in the off chance mine drains a little more than usual. As for the torque specs I see you said 5 speed mine is the 4 speed likely the same torque specs? I will do a little digging to make sure just to be safe. After a pan drop filter change drain, and fill is it recommended to drain and fill every 30,000 miles after?
I am very hard on my vehicle as I am lazy, and don't walk to work which is .5 miles away

so following the severe maintenance. On occasion I bike so don't go completely torch, and pitchforks on me.

Welcome and congrats on the new Vibe. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. As for the trans fluid, for driving it "hard", the change intervals are about 60,000 miles, while regular driving does not require changing. But I did a drain & refill on my 2010 GT at about 65,000 simply because I didn't know how the first 36,000 miles were driven. I planned to do another drain & refill after about 30K since I planned to keep the car a long time, but that didn't happen.
From the Vibe owner's manual:
❑ Change automatic transmission fluid every 96 000 km (60,000 miles) if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:
− In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 32°C (90°F) or higher.
− In hilly or mountainous terrain.
− When doing frequent trailer towing.
− Uses such as found in taxi, police, or delivery service.
If you do not use your vehicle under any of these conditions, the fluid does not require changing.
See Recommended Fluids and Lubricants on page 10-15 for the proper fluid to use.
Good luck with it!
