I've been working on replacing the right CV axle. Now that I have it in, it seems like it didn't go in far enough. How do you tell? Any photo's of what it should look like would be appreciated (I know, I should have taken a pic b 4 I removed the old one  ).

Thanks

It should pop right in. If you are unsure you can tap on the inner cv joint (as if to remove it) and see if it moves. If it's fully inserted you should get no movement.

If you'd like I can take a picture for you tomorrow.

OK, I figured out it wasn't seated correctly. Did a little digging on the net and based on that pulled the circ clip to see if it would fit. It did, so at least I had the correct part. Compressed the circ clip a little and replaced it, the after making sure everything was lined up, "persuaded" it 'till it seated correctly. Persuasion involved a block of wood and a 3# hammer. Filled the gear box with fresh oil and checked for leaks. Everything was tight so I reassembled everything and took it for a test drive. Seems to be working perfectly (knock on wood). ;)

Wonderful! Look under it in a couple days and make sure the seal isn't leaking. Pulling the cv can sometimes tear the seal.

It's not a serious auto repair until you get out the hammer!
