Hmmmmm ... Is that $12,000 a starting bid? It looks like this is the base Vibe (based on wheel covers) but with the bigger 2.4l engine. It might be worth 12k but not much more than that!

When I see miles that low, my initial thought is, it is a salvaged title and has been in a wreck. Moreover, the color is listed as black. That's a funny shade of black; it is the dark blue.

This does not appear to be an auction. They are asking $12,000. At estate sales you often see some dickering. Also, at least here in Columbus, estate sales are often full price on day 1, 25% off on day 2,and 50% off on day 3. Of course the person running the sale probably knows he can wholesale this car to a dealer for maybe $8,000 so it will not likely be part of a 50% reduction. [One would think that a salvage title would have to be disclosed.]

Yes, sorry it is Midnight Blue...not Black. It was owned by an elderly woman in Hammonton, NJ. Not a salvage title, just rarely driven.
The VIN # is 5Y2SP67009Z462502
So now that I have been roped into being in charge of test drives on this car, I am told that the $12,000 is the starting price, bids to be accepted starting on sat morning at 8am. To the person who mentioned the descending pricing structure of estate sales, that will not apply here per the contracting families' request, the car will go to highest bidder. Bidding will be informal between interested parties and Brenda Rankin, owner of A Vintage Estate LLC (
avintageestate@yahoo.com). Other notes: The Executor of the Estate will be arriving on Monday with Title and the car is to be taken to dealership on Monday for a recall on the passenger airbag? So I am told.
I will monitor this forum to try and answer any more questions. Thanks

It would be interesting to see what someone is willing to pay for that ultra-low mileage six plus year old 2009. I am guessing that CarMax would ask at least $15,995, maybe even $16,999. Miles are the most important factor in buying a used car, but time also is a factor. Things deteriorate over 6.5 years even if not driven. Cars keep getting better. A new Honda HRV in the low 20's might be a better choice than $16,000 for a 2009 Vibe.

Great! Hopefully the buyer was an owner who is going to make it their daily driver for several years to come. I still can't come to terms that we just may see this on a used car site in the next couple weeks.

So what do you think the auction value or dealer trade-in value is? Might not be a whole lot more than $12,000. My 2009 Base 1.8L AT has 35,000 miles. I am not sure I could get any more than $10,000 for it in a private sale, and doubt that a dealer would offer more than about $8,000 trade-in. [When i bought my '09 I sold my 2003 with 33,000 miles for $9,500 privately.) Maybe for fun I will stop at CarMax and see what they would offer me.
