Probably just pollution, dirt, and other crap. The tough stuff won't come off with a standard car wash.Try a clay bar. Should get all that crap off.

Clay Bar, eh? I have read about them and don't quite understand 'em. Assuming you have used one, I'll try to remember to talk to you at the Ohio Meet about it.

I'd be glad to discuss it with you...It's a time consuming, labor intensive process, but the results are worth all of it.

Believe it or not, there is such a thing as rail dust. However, that usually looks like little specs of rust on your paint. What are your specs like? Can you actually see those specs that you feel on the hood? Does it look like specs of dust or a bubble under the paint? I'm asking because if it is a paint blemish, it is fixable under warranty. Even rail dust (although it is unlikely) is fixable under warranty. Check with your dealer to see if they will repair it for free before you try something drastic such as a clay bar. I don't know much about clay bars, but I do know that you shouldn't need to use it for a new car. Are you coming to the Oshawa meet?
