GenVibe Meet 2015!

June 20, 2015 in Pontiac, Illinois

Hotels:

Best Western

There may or may not be a block reserved for us. I will need to call and confirm. There are others in Pontiac, but this is the one we have primarily stayed at the past two years.

Quality Inn

Right next to the Best Wesern

Super 8

I believe this one is across the street from the other two.

The plan is to attend the cruise night planned for June 20th, and then head off for dinner later in the night. No place currently planned, though depending upon group size we may not need a reservation. Friday night we may get together sporadically for dinner and to enjoy the night before everyone is there.

Current list of attendees:

KITT222 - Nick (myself)
04zvibe - Zane
hotbug1776 - Andrew
vibenvy - Carrie
Kaflex - Jeff
tpollauf - Tim

Maybe
gtv237 - ??

Let me know here or on Facebook if you want to join us, and I'll add you to the list.

Thanks everyone!

June 22nd 2015 appears to be a Monday. Is that correct?
Father's Day is Sunday, June 21st 2015.

:D

I'm there no matter what kind of meet it is and I WILL be there no matter what!

Just curious... is it a car show or a cruise night? Pretty big difference between the two.

Heh, woops. Still have last year's date stuck in my head. No wait... That's two years ago. Argh.

June 20th, the Saturday.

Anyway, it's a cruise night! And it appears that despite my unanswered email, we're on the calendar.

Woo hoo! I'll probably head down Friday afternoon and leave Sunday morning like I did in 2013. So, I'm assuming this is the cruise night they do every month or whatever?

Count me in for all day Saturday and evening dinner. No Friday night cruise for me :x Will then leave Sunday morning. Looking forward to another meet :)

Sounds good! Anyone that is interested, please let me know, and how firm of a 'yes' that is. If we end up with fewer than five people I'm going to email Pontiac and tell them to put us in a place not in front of the museum. I will also update with plans, hotel info, etc...

I could probably make an appearance for one of the days. I really wanted to go last year but I had to work. Which day would be best?

Saturday is when the majority of the "action" will be taking place i.e. cruise night in downtown Pontiac with tons of other vehicles and lots of spectators.

Nick, I am a definite yes. I will nail down specific plans as we get closer and I find out who's arriving when, etc.

Ohioans, let me know if you want to caravan across Indiana and we will determine a meet point, most likely towards the western line of Ohio. Those east of Cleveland, I will be heading out of Erie, Pa around 6-7 am the 19th (Friday). I usually run 224 to 24, as it runs directly to Pontiac. It's mostly country and small town driving, kinda boring, but I feel safer knowing I'm not far from a diner of farm house.

I'm currently living in Findlay, so Tim could come down here and all three of us could caravan. Zane could meet us here as well.

So that's:

KITT222 - Nick (myself)
04zvibe - Zane
hotbug1776 - Andrew
vibenvy - Carrie
?? - Jeff (Bookface page)
tpollauf - Tim
gtv237 - ??

I might actually be able to make this one.

I'll have to make a few calls to confirm, but you can probably count me in for Friday and Saturday, and I'll take off sometime Sunday Morning.

Great! I'll add you once we have a confirmation. Feel free to post up on the GenVibe Facebook page, too, if you have one.

If it weren't almost 600 miles one way for me, I would probably be there. I've seen previously there has been a few local meets up in Erie, PA. Do they still do any up there?

It's at least 700 miles for me and I'm going, dragging the family also. Road trip

There have been a few up that way, and I drove from Minnesota to get to one. Quite the hall that was... but it was fun. Pontiac is a very nice and family friendly town that has been kind to us, so I look forward to another meet there.

Checked at work and they won't give me the time off to go then. Oh well. I'm planning a trip to Mount Rushmore later in the year and will probably stop there and take some pics like in Vibenvy's signature. Seems like a neat place to stop.

There may be another meet in Erie this year. I'm waiting for the event schedules to come out for this summer to see if we can bundle our event with another and have a bit more fun.

That Route 66 mural definitely makes an excellent backdrop for pictures! Too bad you won't be joining us, but I'll be looking forward to seeing pictures if you go through Pontiac on your way to Mount Rushmore!

Father's day weekend again; that didn't really go over well with the family in 2013. Going to have to skip this one again. Maybe next year.

Was looking forward to the Pontiac this year. But... friends wedding is same day. Will try to catch up on one of the other meetups later in the year. Will allow more time to complete upgrades!

We will keep you updated. By the sounds of it, some people may also want a more localized meet for the Ohio/Michigan area. Lots of chatter on the Facebook group.

Heck, depending on where exactly it would be, I may be up for another meet later this year since I'm not too far from the Michigan / Ohio area! I must remember to check GV FB page !

I went with the quality inn, I have a choice rewards membership and I paid $80 a night booking early. I looked at both hotels and Quality Inn is more what my family wants. Just look at both and see what is better for you and your family.

OK. I'm a definite BUT did not book a hotel room yet. Where are most of you guys staying? Hopefully they are not all booked up yet. For me it will be a Saturday night only. Looking forward to another road trip :D

And.... Booked at the Best Western, I called to see if they had a block for the GenVibe, they only have one block that weekend, and it is for a wedding. Pretty sure that's not us, unless there's something someone isn't telling us.

Just booked my room also at the Best Western ;) That's where I stayed at two summers ago. Hope to see a lot of you there in June.

I still plan on coming, I'm reserving a room at the super 8.

The clutch is getting pretty weak, so no racing around for me. I also just picked up a nasty metal object in one of my summer tires. Which will need replaced as well. I'm on the emergency set of wheels for now. (steelies)

So after the meet, the vibe may need major surgery and time to recuperate. If I can afford it, the surgery may happen right after the meet at the shop in Sandusky, Ohio. Week long vacation i guess.

I see you live at the east end of the devils highway (666). I've always wanted to drive that road, as I hear good things about it.
If you want to meet up in Edinboro the morning of the 19th and tag along, we will work out details as the time gets closer.

I do live by it. It is a really nice drive in the summer and fall as the leaves are changing. Very scenic area and lots of back roads to travel. Sounds like a plan for the meet. I'll let you know if I get the time off.

So what is the current plan for Friday and Saturday, apart from dinner possibly on each night, and the cruise on the 20th?

Go and see the museums, go to a park, or a movie some where (is there a drive in theater?)?

I plan on getting some dinner Friday and crashing in my hotel room. Saturday, meeting up with the group in the AM at the car wash (unofficial tradition), then the parking lot at the courthouse. From there we may all head out for some photo ops (there are a few just to the north of Pontiac) or just hang out and BS until the cruise in, where we will probably tour the museums and see all of the awesome cars. Then dinner and my hanging out, then bed again. in the morning on Sunday, I will be gone around 6AM for the long trip home, anxiously awaiting the announcement for next years location and date (I'm actually already anxiously awaiting next years location and date, I hope it's out west or someplace like the tail of the dragon)

Pretty much what Andrew (hotbug1776) said. Back in 2013, those of us that arrived Friday afternoon / evening went out for dinner and than just hung out in the parking lot of the Best Western bs'ing.

Saturday morning we met up at the courthouse and than all cruised north to Starved Rock State Park, took some pictures there and than headed back for the cruise night. After the cruise night, we took some group photos and than ate dinner together. It started raining, so everyone pretty much just went to their rooms after that.

Sunday morning, those of us that were still around went out for breakfast and than everyone went on their way.

Unfortunately, there is no drive-in nearby that I'm aware of, but there is a movie theater in downtown Pontiac. Back in 2013, a few people went there to catch a movie on Friday night.

Same here! It would be cool to be able to finally take the Vibe on a longer road trip!

There is a fairly well run and updated drive in theater with first run movies in another small town nearby, Harvest Moon Drive In, Gibson City.
http://www.harvestmoondrivein.com/
45mins is 'nearby' in a rural area, the drive is on rural highways, only requires one turn outside ptown
It's cheaper than a real theater and most people have nothing but good things to say and they've put a lot of money into and left the old charm too

The theater in pontiac is fairly crummy and small

If you drive up to Starved Rock with many of the same people, you could try Matthiessen State Park which is directly next to Starved Rock and I think is a better walking trail park. The entrance to each are right next to each other.

If bored on Sat night cruise in or after(they don't run in the rain), there is a race track in the neighboring town of Fairbury 10mins away, a dirt track oval, from 7pm-11pm.
$25tix, kids and parking free, and cheap beer inside, or bring your own inside. That weekend is a special event and it will be packed with screaming fans and the top cars in the midwest, along with many camping around it.
A unique thing if you haven't been to one, although I can't promise you'll love it, but even then the 'atmosphere' is one of a kind. Any local at the cruise in could tell you about it, many will likely leave early to go themselves.
http://www.fairburyspeedway.com/

You can also cruise old Route 66 a bit, and there are various small touristy things. Many patches of the road in that area are in good shape as they were shovel ready for the long ago stimulus (not many people drive on it) so they repaved it, and to help with high speed upgrades on the Amtrak running along side it.
