Door speaker wire connections

I've been reading through all the door speaker replacement threads I can find and have came up with a question. When installing aftermarket speakers how are you guys connecting the wires from the factory speaker plugs? Do they make adapter plugs that connect to the factory plugs then just connect other end to new speaker? Or do you just have to cut the factory plug off and make the connection? Hope that made since.

Depends on where you get your speakers. Some vendors will include adapters to fit the existing vehicle plugs ie. Crutchfield. If you get just speakers, cut the plug off the OEM wires and attach the speaker leads wire to wire, solder works best.

So they do make adapters for the oem plugs? I would prefer to go that route instead of cutting.

The biggest retailer that includes adapter plugs is Crutchfield. When you buy a new set of speakers they include the mounting rings, hardware and adapter plugs.

Here are the adapters I received with my speaker orders.
They worked great!

Thanks for that info colonel, I'll look for those Metra adapters. I already have some speakers at the house; I'm hoping I can use them amd just get the adapters to plug them in. I started a new thread about my speakers so hopefully get this all figured out soon.
