Tail Light Assembly "Cover" -- Replaceable?

Hello GenVibe,

I'm not much of a car person so please forgive me if I don't know all the right terms. I have been searching everywhere for this part and I can't find it. I figured this forum must know.

I recently backed my Second Gen Vibe into a metal trailer (too low to see) and it punctured my driver side tail light, but just the clear "shell" or "cover". All three lamps are still in perfect working order, however the cover is clearly damaged, and it cracked top to bottom. Is this part available on its own? It would be a shame if I had to replace the entire assembly just for this, but all I can find is the assembly, or the lamps. Thanks for helping.

It is sold as an assembly only. Best thing to save money over new is to find one at a salvage yard on http://www.car-part.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or on ebay and buy it from them. Most of the yards will ship, so if you find one it does not have to be a local place. Just as for pics, that's what I did on some wheels I bought.

Good luck!

Welcome to genvibe!

You are referring to the lens of the tail lamp. These plastic pieces are fused to the back (a.k.a. housing) of the tail lamp and not intended to be replaceable.

If you have glass coverage with your insurance, check your policy- it may be covered.

If not, the part numbers are:

Left (Driver's) Tail Lamp Assembly - 88975724

Right (Pass.) Tail Lamp Assembly - 88975723

If you need to do a temporary repair, maybe clear packing tape would work short term and keep the rain out...

TYC makes a good quality aftermarket for around $84.00 shipped on Ebay.

Ooops, only '03-'08

good luck finding one! the passenger side lamp on my '10 was scuffed in a minor scrape. the shop (dealer) where i had mine fixed had a terrible time finding a replacement,-and that was several years ago!

it took a month or so, but they did find one. in the interim, they buffed mine out and it looks almost perfect. as such, i have a perfectly good passenger taillight assembly sitting in my garage, awaiting a new home on someone else's '09-'10.
