To all of my fellow Viber's, My work will be cutting off our access to the internet as of Sept 1, 2003. This means that I will only be able to chat from home. Unfortunately, I am hardly ever home so you all will be hearing alot less from me. I'm still going to chime in from time to time but it won't be as frequent. We just had a worm virus wipe out our entire network of about 1000 computers between 10 stores and this is how they think they will remedy the situation.Talkto everyone when I can!!!Shadow Realm

they warned us at our bank yesterday and had us check our Symantec Versions. We were all up to date.On that note. did anyone get hit by the w32/lovsan worm on Tue/Wed?That one went worldwide on XP users only no matter if it was home or professional. you only had to be connected to the net to catch it.

my pc got hit with the msblast one. took me like 3 days to get it working. it wouldnt let me download certain things from the internet, ie the ms patch. lol. finally i got around it. trust me now on i am keeping my virus defininations updated

yeah, my company is moving me back to our main office where i won't have access online. i can only get on at home, which i'm usually never there.

A better solution would be to dump MS server operating systems and use something better. Never had a virus, never had a system crash due to any one of the all too common Microsoft flaws, and never will. Boy do I feel for you people that have to work with that crap.

It's easy enough to fix, compared to last year's Klez outbreak at my company. What can I say, that kind of stuff keeps the Vibe out in the driveway... They switched back to Microsoft xp.... I have been running ME for 3 years and never had a virus and only crashes were due to other software being loaded on. Even then just minor glitches. friend of mine went over to Linux and he is an avid gamer..... He had to switch back because Linux kept crashing and messing up the games...Must of the problems people encounter are due to their own negligence. Sure they cut off your access... why? because THEY didn't update your systems when Microsoft first WARNED them on July 16th. Everyone has been able to get the patch since then. So I don't feel sorry for any companies. My company also was stupid and didn't update. (They have our XP machines locked so tight that we can't go to windows update). Monday at 4pm we were hit with it. The next day I got in at 7am and patched my machine, ran the sysmantec fix to wipe it out and was running 5 minutes later.About 11:30 the same day one of the IT guys comes over and asks if my computer is rebooting. I informed him that I had fixed it and everyones around me 4 hours earlier. Our IT stafff sucks.... dont get me wrong I work in IT too...but with the development area...not the network. We have hired monkeys to do that part

I bought a brand new dell computer about 3 months ago and I'm running XP on my computer....Should I download anything to prevent this? I'm more familiar with M.E. and not sure about XP files. Thanks in advance.

Please no OS fighting around here...Linux is not neccesarily better than Windows, nor the other way around. It depends on what you're using it for...I agree though, cutting off access entirely is one of those "blanket solutions" that's just dumb enough to be stupid. I'm thankful to be one of those people that constantly checks Windows Update and LiveUpdate... Though most of the time i'm so bored..it gives me something to do..

I love being behind in the times. Good old Windows ME, people say it is a junk OS but I havent had any problems with it. And it isn't effected by that "blaster" worm. Most of my friends, and my father had it, but I just keep on a rolling.

Sysadmins should be more vigilant about patching ANY os, server-side and on the desktop, whether it be Windows, Linux, Unix, etc... Anything can be vulnerable, and it is becoming increasingly so these days. Most of the horrid events they gripe about could have easily been prevented. I actually installed a DVD +RW/-RW drive about an hour or so after it all happended so I was fine
