Hello all,

I am getting a very slow leak on my 04 GT(about a drop overnight) and it seems to be coming from the oil pan. Its not coming from the drain plug but the edge of the oil pan itself. I looked around on the forums and it looks like we dont have a oil pan gasket or anything but just sealant? So i am guessing the sealant is bad and needs to be resealed. Just wanted to post some pics to get some advice from some of the gurus on here.

Let me know what you guys think. Do i just need to reseal it?

thanks in advance!

Before you go ahead and reseal the pan, make sure the oil is not running down from above and dripping off the pan. Look or reach up from underneath and see if there is oil above the pan. Shine a flashlight down from under the hood and see if the valve cover gasket or other seals are seeping oil slowly.

It may just be the pan which would be an easy fix. My guess is valve cover gasket.

You are correct that there is no gasket on the pan, just some sealant. If you do reseal the pan, then be sure you've elevated the car in a secure way, you'll be under it for a little while taking off any trace of old sealant, don't want the car falling on you.

Good advice from Raven about being sure where the leak is coming from. Not sure about the 2ZZs in the GT, but the 1ZZs in the base models have a timing chain tensioner on the firewall side of the engine that is a common source for oil leaks, so that's another place to look.

I took a flashlight and looked down from the top of the hood and didn't see anything. I'll reach around the oil pan and see if I find any oil

My 03 GT is doing the same, and I debated on pulling the pan while I had the transmission off for a clutch replacement last week, but decided to not bother since it is not dripping anything just yet in my garage. It looks to be easy enough to pull without removing anything else, so I'll do it on my next oil change, along with a motor mount that needs replacement.
