Where to mount microphone?

Post by drsus »

Hi all, I just purchased a JVC radio with Bluetooth, and im having trouble deciding where to put the mic at. It would be awesome if i saw some pictures of your mic setup to give me some ideas. Thanks!

Sorry don't have a pic, maybe tomorrow, but the Vibe I just got came with the mic dbl back taped to the flat of the steering column b/w the wheel and the instrument cluster. I don't see any wire so it must be hidden well (didn't really look that close yet) and seems to out of the way enough that I hardly notice it. Seems like a good spot.

I installed the mic on my son's car in the same place. Seems to work OK.

I had mine mounted on one of the ledges near the gauges and it worked OK.

Then I moved it so it's up at the top of the A pillar where the plastic meets the fabric. It seems to work better, probably since there's fewer surfaces reflecting sound around it,

This is what I did. I cut the base of the mic so that it would sit flat & attatched it with double-sided tape. No probs with sound quality. Very simple cable routing as well and absolutly no visible cables. No pulling trim panels or anything like that. It is well hidden & wont get hit by anything.

Mine is wired up thru the A pillar, as well. I have mine pop out there at the top by the sunshade swivel. Haven't had any issues. I do like the way cptnsolo77 has done it but I would be tempted to drill out a hole and actually insert the mic into it, leaving out just enuf to still pick up audio properly. Hmm, I may look around the car later to see if there's a spot begging for it. Thanks for the inspiration, cptnsolo77.
