Twilight sentenel

The sensor on the dashboard near the drivers A pillar makes the headlights turn on and off depending on when the sensor is in or out of sunlight. For those of you that have a navigation system, the nav screen turns to a black background when the headlights are turned on either manually or by the sensor. The location is too close to the A pillar as the pillar shadows the sun and causes the sensor in the shade to react as if it is twilight, turning the headlights off in broad daylight, changing the nav screen to black background which is hard to see in daylight. I suggested to GM that they move the location of the sensor abount 6 inches to the right which would eliminate the false readings. I visited a Pontiac dealer and now see the new 2004 vibes which still have the sensor in the same location. So much for good suggestions. Does anyone have any other suggestions to eliminate the problem while still keeping the useful auto headlight feature intact. Of couse I could go back to manually turning on or off the headlights but I like the feature.
