Have a question on awd system for the 2009 vibe

Is the awd system part of the automatic transmission? Or does it mount up to it?
The reason I ask is because I'm investigating an ev conversion and would like to keep the awd feature but lose the trans. Obviously if the awd is in the trans and the trans gets removed, goodbye awd.
Anyone have a diagram?
Thanks
Jeff

From what I know, the AWD setup is part of the transmission. There is a third output on the transmission for the rear driveshaft. I don't know how much they changed from the first gen AWD to the second-gen AWD, but here's a "diagram" of the 03's AWD system.

I'm not sure how accurate that diagram is...
At any rate, the front differential is a part of the transmission, the transfer case and rear differential are by themselves. I suppose you could fit the awd system into your new...whatever it is you're converting to, if you find the right stuff/people to do it.

What is an EV conversion?
Yes as its been said the factory automatic transaxle is part of the all wheel drive system. It contains the center differential (like a transfer case) that distributes power between the front and rear wheels. Similar to how a regular differential distributes power between the left and right drive wheels. The transaxle has outputs for the left front wheel, the right front wheel and the driveshaft for the rear wheels. The driveshaft connects to a rear differential.
