I'm trying to decide on whether I should go ahead and purchase my Injen CAI now or wait until after I get back from my long road trip from northern VA to southern AL and FL. My main question is: How loud is the engine while cruising around 70-85 mph? Noticeably louder than stock? I like the sound of the engine now and sure wish I heard a CAI. Everything I've heard from people is it sounds awesome. I'm thinking if I go ahead and install before the trip, I may be able to enjoy a bit better gas mileage (from what I've read here) and I would get to have fun trying out the new intake. I just don't know if the sound is really annoying for a 15 hour road trip.

I don't really think it's much louder at those speeds. It's more of a rpm thing. When you start hitting 5500 and above, it starts growling...but at cruising speeds, it'll be fine. I can't say whether or not it hurts gas mileage or not, I have too much of a lead food...

You won't notice it at all unless you are flooring the car. It seems to do more with how wide open the throttle body is compared to anything else. Even down low at 3k at wide open throttle, it is somewhat louder.

It'll save you gas at highway speeds, unless you're constantly drilling it to the floor. You won't notice a thing as far as noise while cruising.

I put my AEM on before my trip 'cross country. I actually thought the engine and exhaust were quieter in the 85 - 90 Mph Range. Of course if you gun it that is a different story... scares most other drivers..

i just installed my cai this weekend, and there is no way you will ever get tired of hearing your monster roar!

At cruising speeds it is not any louder than stock. It is a function of how much throttle you're giving it. At light throttle openings, it sounds nearly stock. But, hit lift at high rpm and it screams, it really sounds a bit like a sport bike as it winds out!

What do you mean by "sport bike"?Do you have a Vibe GT? If so, on the high lift camshaft above 6000rpm, it has a very nice, honking/ripping sound, especially as it gets close to redline at 8200rpm. I would say it sounds somewhat similar to a 600cc sportbike, though a slightly bit 'rougher' sounding. Either way, it's a very sweet, addictive sound. It certainly doesn't sound like a chain saw. I don't know exactly how the base Vibe sounds with an air intake, but I'm sure it sounds rather nice also!

What do you mean by "sport bike"?Actually, I think it sounds closer to an Indy car more than anything. Taking through a tunnel at 8k makes it sound more like a sports car than a bike. I do know that people will give it a look since it sounds like it's reving too high.

it's not much difference unless you are gunning the engine to pass or just having fun. I drive back and forth from Anchorage to Fairbanks (700 miles round trip) about 2-3 times a month. I have a ton of fun driving thru the curves and twists on the road. With the CAI, I can feel a huge burst of power at about 5K rpms. now, I drive kind of crazy so, my mpg isn't as good as it could be. still, doing 95 mph in 6th gear gives me 26 mpg. if i slow it down to a steady 80 mph without passing EVERYONE on the road, then i get about 30 mpg. i think that's pretty good! in my Tundra, I got on the best day (with CAI, dual exhaust, and tornado thing) 17 mpg.install the CAI before you go on your trip. it really is that much fun!

I ordered my Injen CAI (polished) last night, so hopefully I'll get it soon!! I can't wait to install it. I will have it installed in time for my road trip, WOOHOO!!Later,
