An increase in HP of that magnitude is going to cost 'ALOT of cash'.

add the pulleys and the light weight flywheel

The aftermarket Pulleys that are available use a smaller diameter pulley on the crank, and larger diameter pulleys on the accessories (alternator, a/c, p/s). This results in the accessories not spinning as many rpm as they did before at the same crank/engine rpm. The accessories aren't sucking as much hp from the motor, leaving more for forward motion. IF you put the blower on, which is an air pump for the motor, and the faster it spins, the more power you'll get out of the motor, you'd want to overdrive it, not underdrive it which would reduce hp the blower would make.If you're talking about putting a smaller pulley on the blower alone, that would spin it faster, you'd get more hp, but was personally told at the MI meet, it would void the warranty.

i was just about to say that. besides adding a pulley to increase boost on a non intercooled supercharger without knowing what your doing(tuning octane etc.) might cause problems.

you think about a turbo?...i hear they can add more hp than a supercharger at a slightly lower cost.

so what would be the better route to go. get a supercharger and spend $3000 bucks, or do all the extra add-ons and upgrades? i am not very familiar with pullies and that sort of stuff, is it spendy?

quote:Well, the S/C will give the base about 173 hp I believe.. didnt someone say you cant get a supercharger for the GT, or am i way off???? i would have gotten the GT, but i prefer an auto. what car would be faster, the base with a super charger or a stock GT?

Short of the supercharger, you will not get to the Vibe GT's 180hp. Nitrous is an option, but is potentially unsafe and isn't available all the time.

It would likely be necessary to enlarge the drive pulley instead. (and be prepared to swap it out before you have your broken Vibe towed in for warranty work?)Also, I concur with silverawd and QUIKAG: There's no combinations of bolt-ons other than nitrous or SC/Turbo that would give more than ~155 HP or so. You would have to tear into the engine big time!

There's no way pulleys are gonna add 20, not even at the flywheel. Maybe 5 at the wheels. the exhaust is minimal gains, unless you're running F/I. There's a couple of headers out for the 1ZZ.Possible new intake manifold with port and polish. This would help the I/E be more efficient in making more power.Gut the whole inside and swiss cheese it up with a hole saw. Ronal Rims would add stylish good looks and about 400 lbs. curb wieght. But The performance gains would be amazing! A 2ZZ swap would get you there real quick!

They are not making the s/c for the GT vibe only the base model vibe not including the awd model! THe GT model you can get the exhaust, cai and the pulleys! You can also get the ram air function hood! Any way you look its going to big dollars! Ptuning.com has the best deals i think! Iv looked alot! I bought a borla exhaust from summit, it makes a little differance! Base model vibes im not sure what you an do other then getting th s/c?

if i get the cai now, would that still work with the SC, or would i need a different one?

quote:if i get the cai now, would that still work with the SC, or would i need a different one? It's unclear at this time but after seeing pictures, my guess would be no. The throttle body is in a different location and on a different angle which would require a specific CAI for the S/C.

What motor on this planet has peak horsepower available INSTANTLY? None that I'm aware of, especially those that are road-going.

What he means is the 180-hp of the GT is no longer available because 2004 GT's are now rated at 173 hp.

I hadn't thought of the 173 hp wrinkle, but my response could've been clearer: The original poster was addressing issues with NOS - what I wanted to say is that the 2zz isn't a driveability icon either - if you can learn to drive the 2zz on the street and use the 180 hp, you can learn to drive nitrous on the street to use 180 hp. You might even like it better. To me, the lift that gets me to that 180 hp number feels a lot like a little shot of nitrous. If you're trying to do a top speed run or an autocross in your vibe (why?), go with the 2zz, but nitrous is probably just as good for everything else. No?

I see what you mean. The 180-hp of the GT engine isn't always there because most of the time you are at an RPM below the HP peak. Same as nitrous being off.

another under-rated mod is painted interior trim. I think this increases horsepower by keeping the driver in a partially "enraged" state, so I'm not so sure that painting the interior blue has as much of an effect as painting it red or orange. Kind of like a sticky throttle

I have noticed that you have the ultra light flywheel, was thinking about getting one put in my vibe"could you give me some details? andthe price of installation, or did you install it yourself?& and is there a difference in power .Are there any installation guides i can check out?

Same as nitrous being off.Nitrous is not factory installed equipment. Toyota and Yamaha engineers probably spent hundreds of hours fine-tuning the ECU and programming the computer maps to keep the 2ZZ motor safe in 99.9% of all operating conditions around the planet. I would trust 'lift' on the 2ZZ many times more than I would trust nitrous on a car not designed for nitrous.

quote:Nitrous is not factory installed equipment.Really? Thanks for letting me know that.quote:I would trust 'lift' on the 2ZZ many times more than I would trust nitrous on a car not designed for nitrous.A well designed, moderate nitrous system is totally safe on ANY healthy engine. The 1ZZ and 2ZZ would probably easily live on a 50 to 75-hp shot of nitrous.

Ummm - the whole point of this thread was non - factory installed equipment. savedbyzero's signature has lot's of factory approved modifications in the "pro mods" section. Seems kind of pointless to mention that aftermarket parts don't have as much development. While we're making obvious observations : factory equipment is subject to a lot of government regulations and has to address the needs of people who might not appreciate the same things enthusiasts do. Maybe toyota/gm designed the 2zz lift system with extra maintainence items so that people who weren't doing the maintenance don't actually get the full 180 hp : http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... 2360#52360
