I just got home from my oil change and a friend called me up and told me that I should've gone to my dealer for a FREE oil change He has a Chevy ASTRO ( bought from another GM dealer though ) and he said to me that GM will supply oil and filter and I only pay for labour as long as the car is still under warranty. Is that true ? I went through all my car documents and I still don't see a thing about it! Enlighten me please. We're talking about GM Canada here, if that does make a difference at all

Was it a dealership coupon that he had? Pontiac dealerships hose you for (about) $31.00
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1095 for a VIBE oil change, they wouldn't offer that FREE! It's too big of a ring for them!

Mobil 1 5W30 4L oil : $302. filter $53 labour $15Total $50.I know it's not exactly cheap but this is my first brand new car and I am not driving an old beater-mobile anymore... so nothing is too good for my baby

He must've gotten a coupon booklet with his purchase. GM was dealing to get rid of the last of those vans, so the coupon booklet with free oil change was porobably part of his deal. I've never seen or heard of this in Canada with a VIBE purchase.

When we bought our car the dealer sold us lifetime oil changes for an additional fee. So we are in there every 3000 miles.

Some dealers will give you a free first oil change but that depends on the dealer. Mine gave me a set of coupons for oil changes at $22 a visit. It'sall just in the luck of what dealership you got your car from.

My Pontiac Dealer in Columbus has a deal - buy a card good for ten oil changes - $119. Includes filter of course. They also have express oil change service with no appointment needed. Couldn't pass that up.

Free oil changes? HA! That's bull IMHO.Jaguar? Lexus? Mercedes. Yeah, it's possible. A lot of those dealers offer x years of free maintenance, including oil changes.Pontiac? Hardly likely.

One or two, sure. But unlimited for X years, or even lifetime is unheard of except in the luxury car market.

quote:One or two, sure. But unlimited for X years, or even lifetime is unheard of except in the luxury car market. If you buy a car from the Tilbury Auto Mall in Canada, you get free oil changes for the life of the vehicle. I amend my former post:"But unlimited for X years, or even lifetime is unheard of except in the luxury car market, or the occasional dealer who is dead-set on getting a buyer to come back to them over and over again, and who knows what people really want.

Actually you can purchase a maintenance agreement (Smart Care) through GM when you buy your vehicle. Works just like GMPP service contract except it covers tire rotataions and oil changes for a certain amount of time. It is a lot cheaper than buying each tr and lof seperatly. It is offered on all GM cars and trucks except for the Corvette.

I notice we do not sell a lot of the contracts where I work as well. Sales and finance can be terrible at a lot of dealerships.

Some dealer here give you lifetime free oil change and car wash. But, (there's always a but) you need to follow the dealer manitenance shcedule to get the free oil change. So the oil chage is free, but all other maintenance are billed and you MUST follow it if you want other free oil change.

They cover tire rotations and oil changes. Cost depends on the dealership (markup) and the vehicle.
