2014 Civic Tourer

With the new corolla's unimpressive 1.8L/CVT combo, any Toyota-sourced Matrix/Vibe replacement is dead to me.
I would however very much like to replace my wife's vibe with one of these....

A shame it's not scheduled for North American release.

Unfortunately wagons just don''t seem to sell in the USA. Gone are the Ford Focus and Hyundai Touring. There was a Camry wagon many years ago. I had a 1977 Buick Estate Wagon. [That Buick was great when it started - and when gas was 33 cents a gallon. Blew ignition coils regularly - finally stopped when I replaced the plug wires. ]

Wagons and hatchbacks are selling like crazy here in Quebec but unfortunatly it's not a very big market to justify an entire segment.

With a lot of FWD SUV starting at 19,999$ I can see with americans buy a lot of them insted of a wagon or a hatchback. Those same SUV usually start around 25,000-26,000$ here so smaller wagon and hatchbacks are far more popular given their price.

Yea, it seems the only proper wagons, under $30k, available today are the Jetta and the Outback. Disappointing.
My next car will likely be a 4 door hatchback, unless I go crazy and get a two door coupe.

Even if it was available in North America the Civic Tourer is a little too ugly for my tastes.

I too am a bit bummed by the lack of wagon selection here. Don't want either of the two you listed and the next cheapest option would probably be the upcoming Volvo V60 (which looks downright sweet, but out of my price range).

Might have to go used and pick up one of these

The Forester is just a tall wagon - agreed? Under $30,000. As is the Rav-4, CRV Escape, Equinox, Terrain etc. etc. I was behind a Volvo SW today - too low for my taste. Acura make a similar one for a little over $30,000.

The Forester, Rav-4 and the rest of the cars you mentioned are firmly in the "Compact SUV" category. The Forester even won Motor Trend’s 2014 Sport/Utility of the Year.

Good things about Civic wagon is that it will have a massive aftermarket.

I forgot about the Acura TSX wagon. Probably because I've never seen one on the road.
Just searched cars.com, there's only 1 used TSX wagon w/in 100 miles of me, and they want $26k for it.

I was hoping for a Honda Civic wagon - but this isn't it! They stole and stylized the new Corolla grille and fender creases and the Matrix rear-end. I can only say it will stick out in traffic! I'm diggin' the Vibe-busting cargo space, the flat load floor and the Vibe style 3 pot instrument panel, but that's about it. I wish they would have just up-sized the Fit!

Overall I suspect that the % of buyers wanting a manual transmission is in the single digits, and even more so for station wagon buyers.
Offering a manual transmission in the TSX probably makes no sense economically.

Actually wagons are the practical vehicle of choice for most enthusiasts so I'd wager manual wagon numbers are a little higher than with, say, manual non-sport sedans.

Well it looks better than the Corolla wagon, but it looks just WAY too busy. Honda & Toyota styling has gone in the toilet IMO. They USED to make some good looking cars in the mid 90s....but damn they just keep just looking uglier every year...holy crap! They are just too overstyled....gosh the Odyssey just looks horrid !
