Is it possible to overwax a car?I was gonna wax it tonight before the big rally tomorrow, but my dad's like "Again? I think you might build up too much and start doing damage to it."Is it possible to overwax a car? Will too much wax be bad for it?

I don't think we can overwax a car. The worst it can happend, it is the wax peeling off.

The only thing you might do is to remove some of the old wax and smooth the surface for the new and protect it even more. Unless you use hard paste wax there should not be any build up. The wax that people used to put on their cars in the 60's would build up and dull the finish until some of it wore off.

It is still possible to overwax a car (my stepdad did it to his show Fiero). Waxing will not damage the car's finish. What happens is that the wax builds up and begins to dull the finish a bit. It is pretty easily fixed by simply buffing out the car and then, guess what, re-waxing it. If you build up many coats of wax over time without ever stripping off the old wax, it builds up. I'd say that if you have applied 10 or less coats of wax on the car so far this year, you should be fine. You really only need to wax about once per month. Between waxing jobs, when you wash your car, use a spray detailer after you dry it off instead of waxing. It will make the car look freshly waxed for a few days, add a bit of protection, and saves you lots of time and effort. It's cheaper, too.
