Power Problems

I am the owner of a 2005 with a 5 speed manual transmission. The throw-out bearing is going out so I'm in the process of getting the clutch replaced. It's also doing a few other things, and it all seemed to happen all at the same time, so I'm wondering if it's all related. I'm currently living in a somewhat mountainous region so I have to deal with going up and down the damn things. When going uphill I am constantly having to down shift in order to keep up speed and sometimes that doesn't even help much. I've read on a lot of forums that this lose of power can be cause by anything from a clogged up fuel filter to compression problems caused by the valves. So, I guess my main question is could the lose in power be cause by the clutch problems I've been having?

As you climb a hill and the cars speed decreases, does the engine RPM also decrease correspondingly? If not - your clutch is slipping!
