it happened.
2003 red vibe. we owned it for about 6 years??
it has about 144k.
17 inch alloys.
b f goodrich touring t/a tires, 3 almost new tires.1 brand new with zero miles on it.
hood ,drivers side fender, bumper all trashed.
the cross bar the radiator connects to is pushed back toward the firewall.
C/V joint broke in half.
control arm busted with ball joint.
possible rear axle damaged.
drivers front side hit the cement wall on the interstate.
the drivers front alloy cracked on impact.
no fluids were on the road untill=--
i suspect the tow truck driver cracked the tranny case dragging the vibe onto the flat bed.

the vibe is very nice.

local body guy wants $750. for labor.
also i need to pay my friendly mechanic to do the c/v,etc. work.
i already bought the needed body parts ,then saw the tranny case damage.

advice needed=-
should i buy a used tranny for $500. shipped .
OR
just give up and start parting it out
OR
save the motor because we also have a 2004 corolla and now another 2005 vibe?

What would you guys do???

tough call.

If you've got the time and space to have a wrecked car in your yard for an extended time, might be better to part it out, especially if you go ahead and buy another used vibe (so you'll have parts to fix whatever problems you inherit on the new used one)

If you've already got the body parts to fix it, and are looking at under 1500 to get it back to good condition then that's relatively low cost to get a used Vibe

Hope nobody's hurt

Got any pics of the crumpled Vibe?

Running almost new Sam,s Club, B.F. Goodrich Touring T/A,s on 17 inch factory alloys . The vibe was going approx 60 m.p.h. around a curve on the interstate at 4 p.m. on a Saturday in a light rain. All of a sudden it starting spinning 360 degree,s. No other cars were involved. The driver didn,t get hurt. This vibe has optional side airbags ,but no air bags at all activated and that,s a good thing in this case.

That is a toughie. Post pics of the carnage. Sounds like there is some serious damage if the rear axle and transmission is damaged. Those are pricey. You might have to consider it might not handle or drive the same after you fix it. On the other hand if the damage is not too bad and you can get it fixed good it hopefully will still be reliable.

BTW Continental Extreme DW makes a awesome set of tires in the dry and wet. WIth my MR-S those thing handles great at the Dragon and in the monsoon on the drive back. Mind you that car felt sketchy at 45 when it rained. I was cruising at 70-75 on the way back with 0 hydroplaning.
