Hi allI am considering getting a Vibe, and the brochure shows a mountain bike inside the Vibe with the front seat down. I think that's pretty cool, since my friends that have Ford Explorers can barely fit a bike in. Trust me, I don't want to have to buy an Aztek Do people here carry their Mountain Bikes in their Vibe, or up on the roof rack, or on a tow hitch?Thanks

I know people put bikes on hitch racks...I'm not sure if they're mountain or racing...but I'm SURE one fits in the back with the rear seats folded...possibly even without if it has one of those removeable front tires...

I've got the yakima blockheads, usually meant for a pick-up bed, They mount nicely to the track in the back seat. Just fold the seats down, remove the front tire and the bike seat and Wala, there you have it a mountain bike in your vibe. And the good part is that you can fit two in there! I'll get you a picture next time I go out biking.Good Luck and God Speed

I've fit my 26" Mountain Bike in the back with both rear seats folded down with no problems. I did not disassemble the bike either.Now I have a hitch-mounted bike rack which is alot easier to transport (free's up interior space / seating), plus you can transport more people and bikes as well.

Yakima lowriders w/ two Anklebiter deuce mounts here!also have a long set of 66inch bars that i use for trips...ive got a basket that fits between the anklebiters and the two copperhead bike mounts that go on the overhanging portion of the bar, one on each side for a total of 4 bikes and a basket of gear. that leaves the seats and the trunk available!

I can lay my mountain bike flat in the back with the seats down. I just take off the front tire and haul it back there quite often. When I have more bikes to carry I use a hitch rack that carries 4 bikes. The hitch cost $99 and the rack was about $150-$175. Great set up. I hauled 3 bikes to Moab for a road trip and while I was there I camped in the back of the Vibe. Great economical car for outdoor enthusiasts (I use my Yakima ski rack in the winter also)

Fits great. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of the bike in the back, but here's the carrier I designed for the back. The steel plate was intended to keep the bike stable by allowing two of the sliding mounts in the tracks to be used instead of one. It seems to have done the trick. The only trouble I've had is the handle bar extensions don't easily clear the lip of the rear opening so they require a little fancy work, and you have to remove the seat. http://homepage.mac.com/wmill/ShadowVib ... lbum8.html

i put bikes in the back all the time and with no prob what so ever the vibe is awsome it does it all!

I'll just agree here and say that being an avid biker, YES, you can put bikes in the rear cargo area.I have a Trek Fuel MTB frame size: 17" that I was ab;e to fit in there with no problem, just layed it on it's side and kept all the wheels on, I believe I had the front tire touching the rear glass, however.I also have a 58cm roadbike, and that's actually BIGGER than the MTB, and I was able to fit that in my car no problem as well.Allow me to suggest a Saris bones rack for your bike excursion needs. It fits on no problem, and doesn't mess with the paint or anything AS LONG AS THINGS ARE CLEAN! 2 or 3 bike carrying capacity, and it can be used as a workstand should you have problems at the trail-head or race. Uber-strong, easy to setup, and price isn't that bad either :DMy cycling is one of the reasons why I bought this car, it almost seemed made for people who had the active lifestyle and had too much sytle(and sense) to drive another fuggin' SUV

I have a pick up bed mount that I mounted to a thick hunk of oak, then I just mount my bike to that inside with the back seats folded down.

I've put my mountain bike in the back easily with the front tire removed. I only have to fold the back seats down for it to fit. I just lay it down and tie it to the floor.

I put mine in the back as well. That was one of the main reasons that I bought it. (Besides the devilish good looks.) The only problem is that the tires scuff up the inside, and if your not careful you will scrape the plastic with the pedals. I use the privacy screen for a mat.

I tried using the Yakima Blockheads in similar fashion, but could not get the bike to fit. I have a Trek 9.8 Elite mountain bike...size XL. The bike is too long to fit...and also, I'd have to lower the seat everytime (I have no quick-release for my seat).It sounds like everybody else's fit w/o much problem... I must have weird geometry or something!

I can fit my cannondale in the back by just taking the front wheel off and with the back seats down only. I was going to by a fork mount to mount to the rails in the rear cargo cover but the bike will not fit -- the seat is too high and with no quick release it is a pain to adjust all of the time. Plus I think my bar ends are too long. If I had to go on a long trip I would probably get a Thule rack that would mount to the existing roof rack cross bars.Ed

I carry my mtn. bike in the back most of the time, just remove the front tire and lower the seat then clip in the forks. I prefer this over a roof or hitch mount as it's much harder for someone to steal the bike. I often just lower one of the rear seats instead of both so I can still carry three people plus the bike inside. This functionality is one of the big reasons that I bought a Vibe!

Cycling is one of the big reasons I bought the Vibe too. I have to Rhode Gear truck blocks mounted in the tracks. My 55cm Lemond and my M Schwinn Homegrown fit in there well, I just have to remove the saddle on both.I recently added a backwards-mounted Thule Velo Vise rack to the top. The Velo Vise Rack Pack fits really well on the Vibe's factory rack.I don't use rear-mounted racks anymore because I got rear-ended while driving my old car with my previous road bike on the back. Pretty much destroyed the bike. Inside or roof rack is definitely the way to go.

I've never been in an accident with the bike on the car, but using a hitch and fork mount bike rack is my choice. Inside is better, but has it's limits as well. Roof racks are more expensive, hard to reach, hard to remove, and put the bikes in the wind, bugs, etc. My hitch cost $95 shipped and my 2-bike rack was $80 (off ebay), but go for about $125 every where else. The glass hatch has plenty of room to open and I can even scoot between the bike and bumper.
