Ok got my new stubby to install, and I upon removing the old one I see that it just continues to turn. I can feel a notch as im turning. Almost like something is slipping underneath the base that may be part of the female end of the antenna assembly.Any suggestions outside of removing the base ??? I was thinking of cutting the top of the base off, like 1/8" ( and glue it back on later) to access whats turning & grab it with a needle nose, so I can remove the antenna. Any ideas ? I got this cool looking antenna sitting on my toolbox. Im stumped

Well I was able to repair it BUT with some work involved. I did have to cut about 1/8" of the top of the base off, then I pulled out the female end of antenna. What happened was that the female end was embedded into the plastic base & came loose. The outsides where knurled though. I think when I painted the original antenna & reinstalled it, I tightened it too much & broke the female end loose from the plastic On top of that I had to re-solder the antenna wire back to the female connector. To get everything back together I had to jam the female end back into the base & top it off with krazy glue. Its holding fine & look great with the 8" stubby. It was a pain in the (removed) working on top of the roof with a stepladder though. Dont overtighten your antenna !
