Ok got my new stubby to install, and I upon removing the old one I see that it just continues to turn. I can feel a notch as im turning. Almost like something is slipping underneath the base that may be part of the female end of the antenna assembly.Any suggestions outside of removing the base ??? I was thinking of cutting the top of the base off, like 1/8" ( and glue it back on later) to access whats turning & grab it with a needle nose, so I can remove the antenna. Any ideas ? Im stumped

Sounds like the metal threaded piece inside the antenna separated from the rubber. You can probably just yank out the antenna now to expose the threaded piece which you can then unscrew with some pliers.
