Reminds me of my bicycle days.

Hello Everyone, I just bought an 03 GT that was making this noise when I bought it. I can only describe it as it sounds exactly like playing cards in bicycle spokes like I used to do when I was a kid. You only hear it during fairly hard acceleration but it doesn't appear to be affecting how the car runs or drives. If you accelerate leisurely or as soon as you're up to speed, you no longer hear it. It also sounds like an external source. I mean it doesn't sound internal to the engine or drivetrain. Also, no sound at all if you just rev the engine in neutral, so it only happens under load. I plan to get under the car this weekend to take a look but at this point I'm just guessing. Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Greg

Sounds like you have a screw in the tire to me.

Thanks. I'll check tomorrow but one of the benefits was it came with brand new tires and I don't appear to have any leaks.

Welcome to GenVibe Bob, Greg, or whoever you are  To me this would sound like an exhaust leak ... very slight. This would explain why you don't hear it at idle or leisure acceleration. Add to this that you might have a plugged catalytic convertor which would make more sense. Focus on the exhaust portion of the Vibe first. Post pics of your new to you Vibe and update profile with location. Again ........................... Welcome :D
