Torque noise?

Ok, so on my big Indiana excursion, I've actually had the radio off a lot...been enjoying the silence and being alone with my thoughts. Anyway, I noticed that whenever I come to a complete stop, for example, at a light, and then hit the gas, I hear a strange noise right as the engine torques up.Could this just be the normal noise the engine makes as it twists on the mounts, or am I observing something more serious? Thanks y'all!Look forward to seeing many of you Saturday!!!

That's really hard for anyone to determine, what's causing a "strange noise" When you're at the meet, ride in someone else's similarly equipped Vibe, or get someone to ride in yours and compare how they sound when you do that thing you do..

My question was more has anyone experienced a brief torque or rattling noise immediately when hitting the gas from a complete stop...

This was talked about at the Mi. Jeff S. said, the noise is coming from the strut located in the engine bay and there is a fix for it. MB Nick could bring this to his (Jeff S.) attention and post more info on this topic. Mine will make this noise in a turn from a dead stop also.

Didn' t mean to disrespect the post, just that it might be easy to compare the sound of the car to another at the big yankee meet this weekend. Didn't know it was yet another known problem.

i doubt theres a problem...might be your CAI too. Engines make alot of noise.

Ok, so I found out today that the noise I've been hearing is the CAI pipe hitting the metal strut tower. Turns out when you first apply the gas, the whole engine twists backwards, and in turn, causes the CAI piping to hit on the strut tower, thus making the "torque noise" I thought I was hearing. As the service manager put it, "your funny filter is hitting against the side. Nothing we can do for you."No big. My question is, does anyone know where can I get a piece of adhesive rubber or something that I can stick to the tower to dampen the noise, but will also be able to withstand the heat of the engine? Thanks guys!

I'm not looking to wrap the pipe...just glue something to the strut tower to keep it from banging...

Just might work...I was preferring something with adhesive on it already, but hey, I'm not gonna be picky...

I tried to take a video of where the pipe hits, but it's too dark. I'll try again tomorrow...But essentially, it's the bend in the pipe by the driver side strut tower right before it passes under the fuse box...

I had some of that black insulation-type tape with a thin layer of rubber on one side and very strong adhesive tape on the other. It seems to be holding up very well with the heat. I just stuck it onto the strut tower area under the CAI and all is well.My other noise from the CAI is in the area where the pipe and filter go through the hole under the headlamp. I'm still trying to get in there to put some of this tape - I may have to take out the battery to get a good reach.I'll try to post a pic of what I bought - got it at Home Depot (or Lowe's may have it as well).

quote:That is the same stuff Dmitri told Raging to get..And he said no.. Yeah, it appears so. It's not just a tape, but sorta like a spongy rubber padding to it. I haven't used it for insulation, but to try to isolate squeaks and rattles on my Vibe, in addition to putting this under the CAI tube to prevent rattling. I did not adhere it to the CAI tube, but to the strut tower, to clarify.
