2003 Vibe Airbag Deployed 4/8/13

That airbag recall that some people received for their 2003 Pontiac Vibes never reached my mail box. They did not initially include my VIN#.

On April 8, 2013, I was with my son in my 2003 Pontiace Vibe going about 20 miles per hour when it spontaneously deployed...busting out the dash board with the force of the airbags and the steering wheel airbag blew out as well. It also fractured the glass on the wind shield...followed by the smokey powdery stuff that filled the car. We were just about to get on the highway and travel 60 MPH....thank God we never made to the interstate or I may not even be here to type this warning. GM was for the most part helpful in the resolution of the problem, despite a 3 day wait for a rental vehicle. They refused to come tow my car so I had to have it towed to the nearest GM dealership myself. They had it for 2 months while they decided what to do with it....buy it back or repair it. They chose to repair it. If anyone else has a similar year car, and you did not get a notice in the mail, do not assume you are going to be spared from this happening!

Wow!
Glad you and your son are alright. Did they cover your towing eventually?

They refused to pay for the towing. The GM rep I spoke to said it was not a covered thing. I likely did not raise enough fuss about it, but I should not have to.
