Help! Alarm keeps going off for no reason!

I have an 09 GT with the factory alarm. A few weeks ago the alarm started going off at home and I'm sure I didn't sit on the keys. A couple of days ago my wife said it has happened to her a few times too. Today we left on a weekend trip to visit our family and the alarm has been going off every few minutes. I have tried locking it with the key and locking it with inside locks but the alarm always arms passively. I ended up just unplugging the battery for the night but need to figure this out because we can't take it anywhere like this.
Any suggestions or has anybody else had this problem? Maybe a malfunctioning key remote sending a panic signal? Thanks in advance!

Just realized it can't be the key remote because it happened to my wife at work (my key not there) and it happened when I had the car and her key wasn't there.

I didn't think the Vibes had a factory alarm, just the panic button for the horn and the option of the security interlock with the chipped key for theft. Does it possibly have a dealer installed alarm tied into the keyless entry? Is it just the horn that is going off? Does it stop with the panic button?
Off topic, but nice other cars you have! I really liked those mid 80's Cougars, along with the Turbocoupe T-Birds. I would really like to have one of them, especially the cabernet red anniversary edition XR7.

It is definitely factory. The owner's manual describes this feature as 'content theft deterrent' and states it activates an alarm if attempts are made to damage or break into the vehicle (page 2-10). The panic button does not stop the alarm going off, only unlocking it with the unlock button as per the manual's instructions for disarming the system. The alarm consists of the horn and lights flashing.
I do love me some Fox body Fords, lol. I've had the turbo Cougar for 14 years (was a 5.0 car back then) and have also had an 84 Cougar, two other 86s and an 87 Turbocoupe. One of the 86s was actually my wife's first car that her dad bought back in 87! We just can't get away from them. I sold the 85 when we moved here because it was just too nice to use as a daily in the Nebraska winters.
