Time spent at shop?

What is the longest amount of time a repair shop has had any car you owned?

I'm curious, since it's going on 5 weeks since the shop had my car for 6 bent valve rods. I'm seriously agitated at this. :x

My Vibe was a the shop for a weekend because we where waiting for parts to ship. Never had to wait for major repairs like that.

What happened to the motor to bend 6 valves?

6 months. Bought the car salvaged and had it repaired. My dad told them to "take their time". Boy did they. For a newly turned 16 year old waiting for his Mustang to be done was torture.

Non-body shop work: About a week while I waited for the transmission to be replaced in my old Vibe. I haven't had a car out of commission for more than half a day since. Knock on wood...

My college beater sat in the body shop for about a month after being rear-ended and pushed under van.

A week because the PCM (!) shorted out. This was before the recall was issued, of course :(

OH, and two weeks from, uh, my little accident for body work.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I'm not a mechanic (yet), but I'm guessing they weren't lined up correctly with the head and BAM got hit with the pistons.

My Mustang spent over a week in the shop when the fuel pump went out. Ford had a big problem with them, and they were on national back order. But I was lucky, others had their car in the dealership for 2-3 weeks!

Worst I've know about was a co-worker that had an accident in her 3 week old car. Since it was a new design, NO parts were available yet. It took them over 3 months to fix it. They should have just totaled it since the repairs plus rental car and loaner car ended up costing close to the new car price. But they did not know that when they authorized the repair.

You are getting a "new" motor.

If you bent valves, you need new pistons, valve guides, springs, retainers, followers, cams, possibly new head, timing assembly, cams need shimmed (pain in the rear and a loooonnnngggg time to do), plus any other parts related to the damage. You may even need new rods and a crank.

It would have been a weekend to swap motors from a junk car or get a new motor.
