Here's an update on it. As the link says, it's set to come to the states in the fall.
I am SO looking forward to this!

I think Somebody's in LOOOVE!
Can't blame you Lanny, This is the first compact prototype I've ever seen that looks GREAT even in the checkerboard camo. I hope this car can save the struggling Mazda.

Not bad but the slope on the hatch kind of kills the cargo room...

I thought I read an article not long ago that said Mazda was on a sales upswing - in part due to the CX5 and 3.

On the mazda3 forums, there's a lot of people that doesn't like how it looks, many saying how horrible the rear end looks. IMHO it's not that bad, I'm sure it'll look better in person. It's just like I never liked how the current gen has the smiley face when it first came out but then when I got a mazda3 rental few years back it grew on me and started liking it lol
Hopefully the new mazda 3 will be on sale by the time my bday comes next year, it'll be my 30th bday present next year

I'm just glad they got rid of the smiley face lol

If Mazda makes this car available to the US with the Sky-Active Diesel, They will will OWN the compact class in my opinion.

Not feeling the hatch but the sedan does look great! Baby 6 is right.
Now, has Mazda corrected those "minor" corrosion "opportunities" that the older ones had? Saw one in a parking lot just the other day with the fenders eaten up with rust that reminded me of that little problem.

It's pretty rare to see something rusted badly here with the limited amount of salt in use. I guess we'll see in 5-10 years how the new ones are.

WOW! The sedan is sharp! Just as the smaller Hyundai (Elantra) looks better than its larger sibling Sonata; This Mazda 3 looks better than the Mazda 6. At least in my opinion.

I like both, and the hatch reminds me of the prior Subaru Impreza, which is a good thing.
Love love love the new corporate Mazda face on their cars.

The "Cyclops" Dash? Does it look better in person?

I got a chance to test drive a 2.0 hatch today at my local mazda dealer, they didn't have any 2.5 yet. The hatch actually looks a lot nicer in person than in picture. Car handles very well and the ride, with 16" rims, is very smooth over crappy roads compared to my vibe. I need to see how the 3 with the 18" rims feel, I'm sure it'll still be a nicer smoother ride than my vibe =/ Road noise is quite a bit lower than my vibe (I have new yokohama yk??? tires). Overall a very nice car inside and out, and the one I drove has that touch screen which doesn't look too bad in person too. Though me and the sales guy agree that the base model with the basic radio looks ridiculously ugly on the car and looks very out of place lol I'm looking forward to test driving the 2.5 model since that's the one I'll be getter

I love my vibe but I'm ready for a smoother quieter car and my dad can enjoy the vibe lol

Here's what I'd have, but it's not listed.
"MAZDA3 i Touring 5-Door" + "SKYACTIV-G 184-hp, 2.5L" + "SKYACTIV-MT 6-speed manual".

Manual for the 2.5 model is not available at launch but will come later on, the sales guy says probably early next year.

I'm keeping my vibe for a few more years, just hoping it will be available sometime
Here's another review. Looks very compelling.

If everything goes well I'll be getting the 2.5 grand touring hatchback some time this month or next. Finally got to test the 2.5 model and even with the 18" rims the ride was very smooth. Much more so than my vibe with the stock 18's. I give props to mazda for finally having good sound insulation in this car. Some people say there's still a bit of road and wind noise but I guess coming from my vibe to the mz3 it's a significant improvement in that department. My car feels and sounds like a tin can in comparison

One minor thing I didn't like was the rear visibility. Seems a bit worse than the vibe. Why do so many car designers making their belt line so high now a days =/

I would guess the high belt line is strictly for styling reasons, though thick C pillars is a safety thing in the even of roll overs.

Well...I did it, got the 2.5L hatch. Couldn't pass on the deal, got it just under invoice plus extended warranty in exchange for low interest rate. Honestly, I didn't expect to feel this sad to let the vibe go. As much as I hated the harsh noisy ride, it treated me well and helped me move a lot of things. The 3 seems lower in the rear opening so might not be able to move as big of objects as in the vibe =/

TRAITOR! How could you possibly do something so irresponsible, so, so, so, So WOW, That thing looks AWESOME!
I think you are just the first of many to move to the Mazda3 from the Vibe, so would you please start a new mazda3 thread in "the others" section and tell us how much you like your new car and update it periodically with MPG, likes, hates, pro's, cons, etc. Also a good place to compare the mazda3 to your old Vibe when you get familiar with the Mazda3.
Congratulations on your new car!

So you got the s Grand Touring?

Yup got the s grand touring. I didn't plan on trading in the vibe since I was going to get the sedan but then seeing both the mazda3 sedan and hatch side by side, I loved the sportier looking hatch. It looks a lot better in person

So yeah, also didn't want to pay insurance for a car that won't get used much =/
But yeah I'll make a new thread later after I get to know this car more

Just don't. See if anyone bothers you about it. Or use a relocator.

That is one sexy looking car, congrats! The rear hatch does look a bit squashed, but as little as I need the full height of the Vibe I could probably live with that. That looong hood line is awesome, and rare these days. 2014s will probably be in my sweet spot when the Vibe kicks it and that will definitely be going on my short list. I agree, keep a thread going and keep us updated on how she does!
