got a letter from GM today about recal 13030 stating that the ECM for the SRS system needs to be dealt with.

the wording is hilarious
"Toyota has decided that a defect..." then, "as a result, GM is conducting a safety recall".
way for GM to sound like mega-assholes lol

I got the #13030 recall too for my 2004 Vibe. It says parts are not yet available but when the are they will send a second letter and your GM dealer will install a sub-wire harness (filter) to minimize electrical noise from the other vehicle electrical components at no charge. If not corrected the airbags and or seat belt pretensioners could deploy!! :o

My daughter also got this recall for her 2003 Vibe. A couple of years ago the SRS light came on, and she paid a bundle to replace the SRS "sensing diagnostic module." Does anyone know whether this could also have been caused by the short-circuit problem described in the recall?

I received my recall notice yesterday. (Had the 'No parts available' notice, first). The dealer I had the 'window fix' recall performed at is now a "Luxury" dealer (Cadillac/BMW/Mercedes).

I think I'll take it to the Chevy dealer instead.

I received my letter saying that parts are available. Made an appointment to the Chevy dealer for Friday!

Taking my 03 into the dealer to get this repaired on Saturday. Supposedly takes about 2 hours.

I'm taking mine in next Tuesday to have the recall done. Asked how long it would take (so I could wait or find a ride) and was told "about an hour".

Received the letter saying the recall was coming, then received the letter parts are available. Made an appt to have done, then found out that was only to inspect that it needed to be done. Parts were ordered and an appt was made to have the recall accomplished. Dropped it off had it done and my daughter picked it up, after I called when they had it all day and never called when it was done. On the way home, the airbag light came on....

Service advisor said they've done over 20 of these and this is the first time they had a light come on. Asked why they didn't drive it (shrug..). Said it may need a 'module'. After causing stress to me, thinking of a several hundred dollar bill, he called back and said there's a 'part 2' of the recall and it would be covered. (when parts are available ;) GM tech service(?) needs to be called..

if they test drove it and discovered the light earlier, we'd be ahead of the game. Now, it's Friday and time is short to get an answer this week.

Nonsense.. Take Care

I took my '04 Vibe into my old Pontiac (and stil Chevy) dealer on Friday to have the recall work done. But after leaving the dealership I discovered that the left side of the radio/time panel was dark and therefore I couldn't tell the time or know what station I was tuned to. It was too late to go back to the dealer and it's closed on Saturday and Sunday. I'm wondering if because the problem was obviously caused by the electrical work they did to fix the recall issue, if it's up to them to fix the new lighting problem on the radio/time panel.

Do I have a case for insisting that they fix the new problem at no charge? I've been going to this dealer for service since I bought the Vibe (used) from another dealership in December, '05.

I got both letters and have yet to get it fixed. My local guy is now just a Cadillac Jimmy dealer.

Since the ecm is under the glovebox, I hope they don't pull my radio. It's Uncle Delco's original, very fragile and already been replaced due to burned out backlites.

Anybody have any idea where this electrical noise filter, aka capacitor goes? I may swing by the dealer and ask to see the TSB. My kids can't wait to see the airbags deploy.

I got the letter and I made my appointment. I went today (06/22/2013) to LaSorsa Chevrolet Buick Inc dealer for the recall. This dealer is located at 3510 Webster Avenue in The Bronx, NY 10467. My appointment was at 7:30AM. There was a big line at the entrance, so they got me in around 8:35AM. The guy checked the Vibe and said that a wire harness needed to be replaced and that the center console needed to be removed to do so. I was worried about it because my center console was full of documents/papers and other things. Anyways, he also said that he would do the best to get me out there before 11AM (at 9:00am). Like around 9:50AM, the representative showed me a list of other things that they were suggesting me to do to my Vibe besides the recall: Air cleaner filter, Cabin air filter, and a transmission flush (which I had done it like a month ago with original dealer oil). He was making me an extra bill for like $500 to $600. Of course, I declined everything except for the recall. My Vibe was ready at around 10:39Am. I was surprised because the center console seemed to be intact. The papers on it, my pens, everything was exactly the same order and way that I left them. I removed the center console before when I fully changed my floor rough and I know that in order to remove the center console it needs to be completely empty. I do not know… This situation got me thinking. .. I hope that my airbags do not ever deploy inexplicably in the future.

The Chevvy dealer's service department wanted $100 to replace the radio they screwed up with a refurbished radio. I refused and complained to a salesman who passed along my complaint to one of the owners, who is the general manager of the dealership. He called me and said they wouldn't charge me for the replacement radio, which they installed yesterday.

I swung by the dealer to ask about the recall on Fri and he told me the fix was under the center console. I didn't ask if that was the center console in the dash, with the radio, or the one below with the shifter in it. He also said it was a slow day and they could get me thru in under an hour if I wanted to wait. This was unexpected, but I had the time, so I did it.
When I got my car back, the only things I noticed was the clock time on the radio needed to be reset (although this may have been the case before I took it in since the station presets were still there) and the O/D was switched off (probably inadvertently by the car jockey). So far, no other collateral damage. I can't tell that any panels were removed. GM says always disconnect the battery before working with airbags. Guess this tech felt lucky. Oh yeah, my airbags have yet to go off.

On another recall note, I showed the writer the broken power window switch panel on the driver door which is loose because the back clip broke off. He looked it up and said since the recall on the window bolts was done five years ago on this car, he wouldn't replace it, even though that was probably when it happened and I didn't make the connection. I tried to glue it down with black RTV gasket seal, but it didn't hold. Will try hot melt next...

Lastly, this dealer has a new revenue enhancement procedure. They check alignment on all cars right in the intake bay. Lasers sure are great. He reports that my camber on both fronts is out and wants $100 to adjust. This would have been a good deal if it included the front camber bolt retrofit kits, since the Vibe has no front camber adjustment from the factory. I'm sure it didn't include the kits, so I declined and am taking it to my regular alignment guy tomorrow for a recheck. You can buy three different brands of adjustable camber bolts(Raybestos, Delco, Moog) from Rock Auto for $20-30 per pair, or Specialty Products bolts at OReillys for $31 per pair.
I suspect the out of whack camber may be ball joints going out, if in fact, it's real. So I will get them checked tomorrow before even buying the bolts, but the bolts couldn't be easier to install. I see no unusual edge wear on the tires, but they're relatively new Pirelli's with hard compound.

I now noticed that my gear shifter indicator light was burnt. That was when I noticed that they were working on the center console right under the radio/gear shifter and Not at the center console where the emergency brake is at. This gave me more peace of mind. Anyways, I replaced the bulb today and everything is fine so far.

Do you mean the center console panel in the dash with the radio and AC controls in it or the center console with the shifter and map holder in it??

That is what it seems like. I actually did not see them. However, since everything I had on top of the emergency brake center console was intact and exactly as I left it, I am assuming they did not work on that area.

Reccion:
there's three "center consoles" we're referring to.
1- with the radio
2- with the gear shifter
3- with the parking brake
I was wondering if you had any idea if it was 1 or 2?

I think that they are working on 2. Again, I did not see them. I am just guessing.

I think you're right, but I don't see any evidence mine was removed, like the burned bulb in yours.
Thanks.
