Vacation trip... No Vibes spotted

Just got back from a trip. Went from Eastern Kansas to Colorado Springs. Up Pikes Peak and down again. Spent a few more days in the area. Then drove straight to the Grand Canyon to spend a few more days. 2500+ miles. We took the wife's Altima, since it's a better highway car. Saw several Altimas at both areas. Saw two matrix's. The dissapointing thing was that in the whole trip I didn't see one Vibe. It seems most vacationers were driving mini-vans, SUVs, or large GM cars (older folks).I know why I didn't take my Vibe. Even the 175hp altima had to downshift to get up the steeper slopes at speed. And in the higher altitudes it had none of great passing power it does in lower Kansas. I suspect my 130hp auto Vibe would have had to slow down.So how many of you have taken long driving vacations this year? Did you take the Vibe, or the "other car"?KSNeptune

I recently had to drive from Virginia to NY state and back. I opted to rent a car instead of putting too many miles on my precious Salsa Vibe. I saw quite a few number of vibes.. Uhmm maybe close to a dozen.. Lots of them had MD and NJ plates.... especially NJ plates.. I followed on of them for a good 50-60 miles and that was sort of fun although it sucked because I wasn't in my Vibe at the time

I took a long weekend and went up to the Twin Cities. Not a long trip (4-5 hrs), but it gave me a good chance to get the vibe out on the open road. The 130 hp 5 speed kept up nicely with traffic even up to 80 mph. Even crusing quickly, I managed 38 mpg on I94 up. All told it was a good drive after work on a sunny Friday evening through the lightly rolling hills of western Wisconsin. On the way home, I took the senic route down Hwy 35 along the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. The long way was a sweet drive. A nice two lane highway, windows down, stereo up and five gears to move. All told I put 950 miles on the car and she came through like a champ.
